How early is too early

After not washing my car for 3 weeks due to heat, work, house project aka water heater blowing out on my wife`s birthday I had enough! Usually I wash my car at least once a week. But with a detailing job this weekend I knew I wouldn`t have time to wash it again. So this morning I woke up at 4:15 am and decided to give it a good wash. I did incorporate my foam cannon with electric pressure washer into the mix. I didn`t think I was too loud to wake anyone up, but am I crazy or does each one of us have that certain melting point where you just can`t look at your dirty car anymore?

Yeah I have been known to creep out into the garage during odd hours if I can`t sleep or to finish a correction job. The way I see it is who the hell cares what time you do stuff at! As long as your not causing a major disturbance go for it!

I thought I do my weekly wash early! For me, I hit the driveway Sat or Sun morning about 5:45 AM. Just starting to get light out. I love it. Quiet and cool. Relaxing for me. Calling for rain this Sat morning, so Sun morning looks like the better chioce. And no sun to deal with. Win/win.

The earliest I`ve ever done a wash was 6:30am before going to cars and coffee. I wasn`t showing my car, but I couldn`t drive a dirty car on my birthday lol

Congrats on that beautiful Bimmer !
You are doing fine ! :)

I also like to get up early and get the wash part done before the East, then South sun hits the driveway..
Having no trees out there yet makes it a lot more challenging to do any outside car work that involves water..

Have owned a couple of Jet Black Beauties and Detailed a few hundred others in that color..
Nothing looks better than a freshly corrected non swirled Jet Black Bimmer..

Once I Detailed a Jet Black 2002 M5 for a Client/Friend and he said that on the way back home through the mountains of Washington, people would move over and let him by probably because they thought he was the FBI or something coming fast in that black beauty.. :)

I`ve been known to get a start before the sun is up as well. Ideally I like to be finishing up drying about the time the sun rises over the mountains. I have also done the late washes where I am busy the next morning so start washing around 9 pm.

Exactly. The early morning hours are the only times I get to myself. Only down side of being an early bird is my wife never makes me breakfast. She says I get up "too early". I`ve always been a early riser so it is no big deal for me. I like my rounds of golf to start right as the sun is rising also.

If I had better overhead or overhead lighting in the driveway, I`d be out there any time from 6pm-8am. The garage is full and the driveway gets direct sun from 8am-6pm. And it has been HOT this summer, I know how you feel, OP.

They actually just installed a fancy new light post this past year right near my driveway. Talk about an awesome free bee !

I wash as early as I can practically. If I am efficient (not as much as I like) I try to get the hose out the night before and start getting other stuff out while dark so I can get going to miss the sun. To me the downside, I can miss more things due to less light.

No such thing as too early or too late for us Autopians, especially with our knowledge of different techniques for different situations. I was polishing one of my cars throughout the day and midnight on New Years eve...i went in the House to "celebrate" with a glass of champagne that my Lady had waiting for me, and then i went back out to finish the car :) . It was her car,so she couldn`t complain.

I`ve also done waterless washing inside my garage(or sauna in the summer 24/7) at 10pm just because.

this all makes me glad i have warehouse space to do my detailing its not ideal lighting yet but better than washing outdoors

and its heated in winter

Lucky duck! I have access to the facilities at work, car washing bays and interior bay, but I don`t like using them because 1) I have to lug all my products there, as I will not use works and 2) if one of my bosses see`s me, with me being off the clock, they always ask me to do some odd little thing, which can get annoying when it takes over an hour to do a proper wash. I once walked in to work to pick up my paycheck, and the only thing my boss yelled to me was "Collin, are you ready to take pictures?" then he walked away. :rofl
