Review: Griot`s Garage Convertible Top Cleaner

Introduction:

As mentioned in a different thread, the Stig sent me some products to review. This is the next in line. Hadn`t planned on using it this weekend but, as the planned activities fell through, snuck this in before the rain.

Thanks again to Corey for providing the format.

Product Claims:

Not on Autopia Car Care site - from a different one:

"Cheap insurance for keeping your convertible top looking pristine.

Do you ever ignore the wheels or tires when you wash your car? The answer is NO! So why ignore your costly convertible top? Clean it the proper way using Griot’s Garage Convertible Top Cleaner, a specially formulated cleaner that gently removes bird droppings, tree sap, fallout, pollen, dirt and grime. This dye-free formula safely removes contaminants from fabric and vinyl convertible tops. Routine cleaning is imperative for keeping your convertible top looking and functioning like the day it was new.

Convertibles cost anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000 over their coupe and sedan counterparts, so why neglect the top when you wash and detail your car? If the person we’re describing is YOU, it’s better late than never to start cleaning your convertible top using Griot’s Garage Convertible Top Cleaner!

Griot’s Garage Convertible Top Cleaner is not a fancy, hi-tech formula – it’s the complete opposite, actually. You see, this dye-free cleaner relies on smart chemistry instead of potent degreasers and alkaline cleaners. The proper way to clean your convertible top is to take the gentle approach, and that’s exactly what Griot’s Garage did with Convertible Top Cleaner.

It’s simple: stop ignoring your convertible top and start cleaning it using Griot’s Garage Convertible Top Cleaner! Follow with a quality protectant from RaggTopp or 303 and enjoy open-air motoring!"

Does it meet its claims? They don`t make many but does work well.

Pros:

1.- Light scent
2.- Good cleaning ability.
3.- Freely rinses
4.- Easy to use
5.- Excellent value.

???:

1.- None.

Cons:

1.- None.

Final Observations and Summary:

I hadn`t used a dedicated convertible top cleaner and my roof wasn`t all that dirty. But Griot`s Garage Convertible Top cleaner did everything I would have wanted and appears to be an excellent value. Don`t think you can go too wrong with it.

Recommended.

FWIW - after the roof dried, applied CarPro Cquartz Fabric Coating 100 ml.. We`ll see how that turns out.

Let us know how that Carpro fabric protectant works out. I`ve got some coming in my next order for my ragtop, but I am a little leary about using it. I`ve been using 303 fabric protectant but would like something that lasts longer and protects better (don`t we all)?

Thanks Pat.

I intend to write a review on it after its next wash. Want to see the superhydrophobic properties in action. Might even be a video. One thing I can say now: be sure to mask off all areas you do not want it. Overspray doesn`t just wipe off.
