New Tractor Detail

What started out as I was just going to slap some wax on this tractor and it turned into a full blown paint correction. Prolly spent 10 hours on this thing.

Anyway, no real before pics or 50/50s. The paint was actually in pretty good shape - just some orange peel I ain`t going after.

Products I used:

- Pinnacle Waterless Wash
- Optimum Polish II w/ LC 3" Hydrotech polishing pad
- PB`s SSR2 on LC 3" flat polishing pad
- GG 6 w/ 3" LC BP
- PB`s Natural Look dressing on all plastic / vinyl / tires
- Sonüs Ion Paint "Coating" LSP
- Dodo Juice Supernatural Finger Wax Applicator
- Some towels I haven`t used in years. I seem to recall they came from a place called "Rag Shack" or similar.
- Coast 1000 lumen LED flashlight:

- Wolfgang Pad Cleaner & Extender:

.... Some thoughts.....

1. The Hydrotech pad lived up to its reputation and shredded half way through:

2. Sonüs Ion isn`t a paint coating - even though the label says it is - it`s a SUPER slick sealant that applies and removes super easy. Reminds me of Super Power Lock:

Dunno how long this stuff lasts, but it is the kind of product you could wipe off the next day with no effort. It has to cure an hour - and most of it seems to disappear into the paint. Smells like solvents. Noticed no post application "static" as the label suggests.

Sonüs says this stuff lasts a year. Seems too good to be true. If it does - it`s a winner. It wipes off as easy as BFWD and looks glossy.

3. PB`s SSR2 cut quicker than Optimum Polish. It also stayed "wet" longer. The Optimum may have finished a hair better - but this is really splitting hairs. This paint was single stage and very soft. Both wipe off easy.

4. The WG pad cleaner works pretty good. I have gallons of various PBMG pad cleaners. None of them clean pads quite as well as LA`s Totally Awesome ($1 for 16oz). However, it`s harder to get the LATA out of the pads.

Just some pics of the process & results:

Yes, i was expecting a big green tractor. :D

I will be doing one of those this summer but the washing part is gonna be a PITA

I will be interested to see how the Natural look holds up to the grass etc from using that mower

Looks great, Steve!

The word tractor might be a regionalism.

Here in Georgia we call that a riding mower. Some of the Northern transplants call them lawn tractors.

But around these here parts, when one says, "tractor," we think of the kind that plow fields.

No matter what it`s called, it`s pretty and shiny.

Your neighbors are probably thinking, Gee, I probably should wash my tractor."

I will have to admit I was hoping to see a full sized tractor :)

LMAO - for real? So was I. Honestly. Big rigs are a constant thought in my head, as my company insures big rigs. And I see them alot on the freeways near me (commercial areas, near ports, etc) Soooooo, I drive by some every now and then, and think how fun it could be to detail or paint correct one of those big guys.

Anyway, your tractor looks good! Love the rear axle shot

EDIT: 512detail was probably thinking John Deere tractor. ah man. I was thinking tractor as in tractor/trailer. Big Rigs. Diesel trucks, etc.

I was thinking the same. Tractor/trailer, or a real farm tractor. But gee...
You must be awfully bored for a full paint correction on a lawn mower.
I hate mowing lawns. If I had to do it again. I`d buy a gang of rotary`s and pull them with something...anything.... my car if I have to. Five minutes to mow a 1/4 acre lawn is long enough. Bah! Humbug!

I work for a large international freight company (second largest LTL in the US) and as a mechanic nonetheless. Plus, I live in Kansas City and frequently travel I-70 and I-35, that thought crosses my mind every day.

That mower looks good though. I guess I`m one of the few too cheaper for a rider. My push mower was free (helped a friend move into an apartment and that was my reward) and it works fine. Wife hates it but it only takes me about an hour for 3/4 acres.
