Why are you resistant to following the Manufacturers Instruction?

Would you apply pad conditioner to a coating applicator or to a wax spreading sponge?


Makes zero sense


Why take a chance?


What do you believe you are gaining by the use of Pad Conditioner?

Priming with pad conditioner just means I don't have to use product to prime the pad. I have the 8oz bottle, so I'm not trying to over use it. I'm far from super knowledgeable here, but from everything I've read pad conditioner replaces the need to use extra product to prime a dry pad. I could be doing it wrong when it comes to Essence, but I didn't see anything in the FAQ about not doing it this way. Some people use extra product, some use pad conditioner, some use a QD.

Are you under the impression that everything you should NOT do with a product is listed in the directions/FAQ?



Detailers who use a spritz of something to prime their pad are doing so with a compound or polish...not an LSP.

I wouldn't expect them to list everything, I mean on the product page on Carpro they refer to it as a polish multiple times, and on their web site it's listed under the compounds & polishes category, and those are 2 things I would use a pad conditioner with *shrug*
 
Hey Jeff if you wanna call me I was one of the main testers for Essence during development and am very aware of the ins and outs. As ^ if you want extra cut priming the pad is good ideal
 
How can I get a jsmooth # on my speed dial. I don't have my essence yet still to cold around here but would like to know how to use it if I fail.
 
So foam or microfiber pads for best results?

I have Meg`s Cutting MF or a lot of different foam pads (LC-HD, hydro-tech, LC flat, all different colors)

Should I use long or short throw?

It depends how much correction you want. I like to use Essence on Meg`s microfiber cutting pads after I use Menz 400. For less cut/correction use Meg`s microfiber finishing pad. I like the microfibers so much I haven`t even tried Essence on a foam pad.

Good point. I should have mentioned that my paint doesn`t need a full correction just some spot polishing here and there to remove some very light marring from medium grade clay alternative and the daily driving rigors (kids leaning on the car, you know).

The problem is I don`t have any MF finishing pads as I`ve already invested in foam and got the MF cutting pads just in case I needed that extra cut. I have more than enough clear to use the MF cutting pads but I`m aiming for the best finish I can get with the pads I own...

I guess my question should have been; what pads should I use to apply essence if I don`t need much correction?
Lake Country HD pads (blue and orange)
Lake Country Hydro-Tech pads (cyan, tangerine, red)
Buff and Shine Low Profile pads (green, orange, maroon)
Meguiar`s Microfiber Cutting pads​

Or should I skip essence and just do a finishing polish and coat?
My logic: I was thinking I could get a better finish with essence than finishing polish before applying my the coating...

Well, I pulled the trigger and ordered some Essence. After ordering, I was surprised to see that CarPro FAQ expects Essence users to strip the existing sealant/wax before using Essence. To me, the whole point of Essence was to skip fine polishing to strip the old LSP and just use Essence as a "one step prep" for paint coating(s).

Looks like I still have to polish. I might skip Essence if that case as I`m not looking to machine polish twice in a row when my paint isn`t in need of correction. Or I could try an aggressive dawn wash followed by Eraser wipe down as my Essence prep.


Questions:
  • Since I have to polish whatever LSP remains, do I need to follow up with Eraser (or similar product) before using Essence or can Essence deal with left over polishing oils?
  • How (as in what process) are professionals using Essence when the car previously had a wax/sealant?


As for my previous question about the pads. I`ll just test for myself and see what worked best as usual (I`ll post my findings as I have a lot of popular pads).
 
I didnt know that about essence but thats how ive been doing it since the second time Ive used it.

I like to get all that old crap off the paint so nothing is mixing with the magic that is happening.
