Open Discussion - Not so at CarPro

I just posted "God bless Autopia" to another thread before I read this one. I try to follow the rules over at the AG site, but when you can't mention Turtle Wax without getting a rebuke something is wrong. AG does allow you to bring up problems with their products, as far as I know. I rarely post on AG anymore for fear of being banned again. If I do post it is to help out a new member with a problem that no one has tried to answer. I've only gone on the Carpro site once. I really like their products. I just like the folks here on Autopia more!

As a newb to this obsession, I really enjoy this forum. I'm waiting to get banned from the CG forum, for endorsing a GG6 over a Torq 10FX. Actually, I was not really endorsing one over the other, just pointing out the differences in O.P.M. and watts....countering a claim by a poster that the GG6 is less powerful than the Torq.

:autopia:

Totally agree with this. I belong to several forums, like I'm sure most of you do, but this is the only one I check first thing in the morning when I get to work (you know, while the coffee is brewing). It's the only one I check on breaks. The only one I check before going to bed.

It's also likely the one where I have the biggest post count! (I'm usually reserved).

Good product discussions. Good folks here, ever so willing to share knowledge. Good deals (Thanks Vega, Paul, etc). And a nice bonus is having some of the main people chiming in from the MFGs (Thanks Poorboys).

It's unfortunate about CarPro, though. I've only used their IronX, and was considering a product or two more. Not so sure about that anymore.

As a side note to this posting, a hydraulic cylinder salesman once told me, "NEVER diss or say anything bad about your competition; you never when you might be working for them in the future. If I told you XYZ cylinder is inferior to the brand I am selling (even if it truly is!), what happens if I now work for the company that sells XYZ cylinders or we drop the current brand and are forced to sell XYZ brand cylinders due to a company merger or take-over. Would you buy XYZ cylinders from me when months previous I told you they were inferior? Probably not!." I never forgot that story. My point is that be every company thinks their products are the best or offer some advantage over the competition. It's up to us as a consumer to determine if that is true or not.

Much of what I use as detailing products comes from the information gained from reading about the experiences of other fellow Autopians that have shared them so willingly within this forum. Were it not for the allowance by the vendors/sponsors and administrators for these Autopians to a voice their opinions in a non-combative and constructive way within this forum, I would not be here typing this. Doesn't mean I agree with everything I read, and yes, there are some left-wing ideas that are just... well, judgmentally in my opinion, wrong. I trust the opinions of a great majority of you whom I consider All-Stars in detailing, as stated, am indebted to you for doing so.

It's just that, now and then, "things" get heated and the he-said-she-said soap opera discussion becomes a flame-on issue that takes on the appearance of a circus side show that, yes, even I, want to follow and read. (Remember the discussion about which products were made by their own company or outsourced from other manufactures and associated pricing schemes?; don't even go there!!). Anyway, openness has it rewards and risks, and I would like to commend the Autopian sponsors and administrators for deciding what those areas and limits are to the benefit of the Autopian detailing community, both members and guests.

Please tell me about another Company, outside of detailing; that has their own Forum and allows people to come on it to endorse competitive brands and denegrate the Forum providers products.

Meguiar's = Open

Autopia = Open

So there are places for anyone to go and express their opinions freely, without insulting a company Sponsored Forum Owner by undermining their business on a website they pay for.

Please dont come come to my house and pee in my pool.

Build your own pool, or go to the local pond.

Filtering the water will cost you extra

Thanks for the lecture, but I am essentially saying what you said, re read it.

Yeah, the only place that accepted my negative experience with CarPro Perl is Autopia.

But I do like the following CarPro products:

  • Merino Wool Wash Mitt (I'm not sure this is made by CarPro or just resold by them)
  • Iron X LS (still smells terrible, like the other iron removers)
  • Reflect (one of my favourite final polishes)
  • Eraser (works and I like the smell)
  • Flash Pads (best cutting foam pads I currently have)

I haven't tried their DLUX trim coating yet but this spring I'll definitely be coating all my plastics (maybe even under the hood as my engine bay is often left open at car events).

Any negative experience with DLUX coating under the hood?

I saw that post for the HF polisher and thought the same thing. Then I read further, Mike Phillips properly chastised the newby, then proceeded to tell him which pads from AG would work best with a PC clone. See an open forum can increase sales! I left no such comment on the AG side for fear of retribution. Lol

I have always found CarPro, Meguiar's and PBMG very accessible by email and by phone. In every instance they have offered a remedy, that was more than fair.

Sorry 52Split had a less than stellar experience with CarPro-US, regarding his Foam Cannon bottle. I am surprised that when he spoke to Corey Carruth; he didn't offer a remedy that was to his satisfaction and he felt the need to address it on the CarPro-US Forum.

Just not how I would have handled it.

I still dont think you know what im talking about. Im essentially agreeing with you, but i really dont care if someone wants to light up carpro either.

Here on autopia you can discuss other mfg`s products as long as you don`t add a link to the website. I did that on my generic 15 and 21 polishers. If you do you will get a no offensive PM from a moderator that`s here on autopia and AG stating that it`s not allowed because PBMG does not sell items.

A few months ago I got my hands slapped at AG for giving advice in a discussion about the HF DA while there were numerous other threads regarding the same product. I pushed back and replied that they should enforce the rules consistently, but I since seen a few discussions regarding the HF DA that seem to go on without problems. So now I don't know what I can post and what I can't post.

If you're going to have rules they need to be enforced equally to all.

I was sad to hear about this thread but someone did tell me and asked I respond here. It appears to be some confusion and or distortions here.

1.- the moderators at CPF are not employees of CarPro or Sky's the limit and they work very hard to maintain that community.

2.- we welcome open discussion - just no links to other stores.

3.- op when I saw you were banned from our forum (I got a notice you wrote in my email) I emailed you back and tried 3x to send that. Unfortunately all 3 were kicked back to me, I'm not sure why that is.

4.- the thread can be judged for itself and you can see many people were looking to help and when I saw it I practically begged for anyone that had a defective cannon to come forward. When someone posts on a forum and never calls or emails you there is no way for you to look up their account or contact them or help them.

Here was my reply on the thread feb 25th

Finally, out of respect for Autopia and PBMG I do not belong here talking about another forum and I apologize for that but had to clear that up. I won't be back unless summoned so won't see pms or posts but welcome anyone that has some misunderstanding to call or email me if you have any problem at all that I can help you with.

Have a great night gents, life is so short. If you have a challenge try to make things right, not spin it into something you can take out your frustrations on. It's an attitude that ends in a downward spiral... You can do so much good if you want to.

Warmest Regards,
Corey

It's like turning the channel on tv. There are many options and many forums. I find the European car forums the most informative and open with all due respect to the popular ones here. This country is awash in political correctness and sensitivity to everything and everybody.
