Dreaming up new taxes

This guy stayed after I left CT.....

I wonder if they have some giant tax think tank that just spends all day trying dream up new convoluted taxes and tax codes.

In NC the republicans took over the house, senate, and governor with the promise to cut taxes. They did cut upper tax rates and current political ads brag about it but they also raised consumption based taxes on many things such as services so the lower income people actually pay more. The economy has improved so they think cutting taxes made it happen. The dems here are not smart enough to make much of this point.

Just a little off subject, but basically its like tax.

I like when you go to a local garage for an oil change( I do my own) and they charge a disposal fee for the oil, yet the garage uses that oil for the oil burners to heat their garages with their furnaces that burn used oil.

I thought that was a no no now, till it was "processed"

They also sell it to terminals for Asphalt oil which then sells it to an Asphalt company that then sells to a contractor working on the roads that are being paid by your tax dollars and fuel tax. Looks like another fleecing of a customer doesn't it.

Well, not to mention, since the EPA mandates certain mpg standards, as a result, the proceeds from the existing gas taxes go down.
You have to come up with something to replace the lost revenue!

San Diego is currently pumping very expensive desalinated water into a lake, because water usage is down and the local government agreed to buy a certain amount to ensure the profitability of the private company that built the plant.

Eh, that can be a sore-spot for me....Noting that my wife and I rely on our investments for our (retirement) income...the businesses get taxed when they make money; then that money gets taxed again when it's distributed to me in the form of dividends; then I get taxed again if I sell the stock for a gain. And when a Pro helps us with our investing *he* gets taxed for the money he charges us. IMO that's more than enough taxes as it is, especially considering what the Govt. is spending so many of those tax dollars on. It's not like everyone involved with the stock market is a cheating gazillionaire who somehow avoids paying taxes, we're paying plenty.

As well as anyone who has a 401 or IRA in the markets,.....

Extremely short sighted. And if you are successful enough it's taxed again in your estate.

And........

Since he said 'stock' then anyone who incorporates etc......... Bad for anyone who is in business or wants to start a business.

And a lot of states get their chunk too......

The only aspect is that the tax code is way too complicated....keep it simple.. I use TurboTax but behind every question there is often some special interest feature added.
