DF Towel Magic Cube - Review

Super Enthusiast
I got to play with the super squishable Magic Cube today from DF Towel. Considered to be a possible substitute of sorts for clay, this sponge like cube is very interesting.

My results are that it did a good job of removing tree sap and mino dirt from my trunk lid when used with Z-6. It had a smoothing effect like clay although I'm not sure it can pick up as much as clay can. Further testing is needed. Still it seems to be an effective product for light claying duties and I really like how it instantly molds to your hand.

Recommended. :)

I also received thre new DF Towels in white in different sizes. I had an old DF CBT from Autopia that I had forgotten about and I pulled it out for comparison. There seems to have been some improvement in the quality of the edging and the material is a bright white cotton compared with a greyish green cotton, er AlpineFiber.

Maybe Leo can explain if there have been any differences. The new towels are a bit stiff but I'm sure they will soften up over time with several washings. They seem very well made.

Hrmm...I still don't get how it works. It's just a block of foam, correct? Not saturated in any chemicals? (I guess it couldn't be since it's supposedly machine washable).

It's like a Mr. Clean Eraser but seems plenty gentle for paint. It's not like a stiff foam used on bug sponges. It's very malleable and designed to be used with soapy water. Seems to work well with Z-6 and other quick detailers.

Yes the fabric weave was updated about a year ago, the stiffer weave actually works better than before.

Thanks for the compliments!

the foam product sounds very interesting. how do you keep it clean? clay can be remolded when a part gets grimy. maybe six sides is enough, like covering a few panels with each side? or use more than one cube if very dirty?

ok so this is a totally off topic remark but

PROPS TO THE MAC IN THE BACKROUND, SAW THE MIGHTYMOUSE!!!!!

It's machine washable in HOT water. If a side gets too dirty and can't be cleaned well enough you can cut a slice off with a sharp knife.

I sure miss that gray towel. I bought 8 of them at considerable expense from the Autopia store. About a month after using them I could not figure out how I was getting scratches on my car. it was driving me mad. Finally I noticed after doing a quick detail on half of my truck lid with a gray towel and half with a pakshak that the towels were scratching the car!! They have since been retired to home dusting.

That cube looks really cool.

I just received my Magic Cube yesterday. Feels kinda cool to play with. Here in the North East, it is still to cold to take out the El Camino and detail it. It is in winter hybernation with a cover on it.

My plan is to use the Magic Cube during the intial spring clean up /detail and then use it every other "wash". Although for most of the car show season, I use Poorboys "Spray & Wipe Waterless Wash" to "wash" the El Camino. I'm hoping the combination Magic Cube/Spray & Wipe Waterless Wash will work out??
