I'll take some custom scratches with my new car, please - 2015 Audi Q5 - 22ple VX3 - Attention to Detailing Peoria

This brand new vehicle was brought to us to receive a ceramic coating for superior protection. Upon inspection it became clear that the vehicle was not at all cared for by the dealership before it was sold. There were some incredibly deep scratches, water spots, and marring over the entire vehicle. I discovered that one of the doors had also been repainted, which was not disclosed to the owner at the time of purchase.

The new owner was not seeking perfection for this soon-to-be daily driver, so our one step correction process was selected to help remove some of these defects before applying a ceramic coating for protection. Moral of the story, don't assume that buying a new car means you're getting a perfect vehicle. Thoroughly inspect, or hire a professional to thoroughly inspect, every inch inside and out. It will save you time, money, and a lot of headache down the road.

Process
Wash: ONR
Decontaminate: Medium Grade Clay & Nanoskin Mitt with Glide for lubrication
Correction: HD Adapt on Orange Light Cutting Pads via Rupes LHR21ES, Griot's BOSS G21, and Rupes LHR75e
Paint Prep: 50% IPA Solution
Paint Protection: 22ple VX3 Signature Coating
Wheel Protection: CarPro Reload
Tires: WaxAddicts Tyre Dressing
Glass: Meguiar's D120

A considerable amount of bonded surface contamination was present. This is not uncommon on new vehicles as they have often spent a fair amount of time being transported by boat, truck, and/or rail. They may then sit on a dealer lot for some time as well. All of this leads to rough feeling paint and must be removed with detailing clay.

The paint had clearly been neglected prior to being purchased by the new owners, but our one-step correction process was bringing it back to life.

The left rear door had clearly been repainted. Here we can see evidence of sanding marks that had carried over onto the left front door.

The paint coating was then baked with infrared lamps to accelerate curing and increase hardness.

The end result was a glossy vehicle that should be properly protected for years.

Just a quick write up this time... thanks for reading :)

That's brand new?!!? That's some crazy damage right there for a car being that new. What did the dealership do with that thing?! And wow that paint was rough.

Great job as always Zach! Looks amazing!

Yikes ! I'd stay far away from that dealer especially after the painted door

Great work! Now the Audi looks proper!

I have personally seen vehicles in the back of dealerships in various forms of disarray while shopping for a car. It's not just a bunch of cars waiting for PDI. I have seen trucks with their beds removed, fenders removed, etc. because of damage; either during transport or at the dealership. I would not be surprised if the owners of said vehicles were not told about the repairs.

Thanks everyone!

Unfortunately it's quite common... weeks of dealership scrubbing and tunnel washes while a car is waiting to be sold can destroy a brand new car.

You'd be surprised to find how many new vehicles have had some body repair done to them prior to sale... transportation, loading and unloading, moving around the shop & lot... door dents, dings, scratches, are all a high risk and no one wants to buy a new car with a dent in it so the dealer will take it to the body shop for repair. I've never heard of this being disclosed to a buyer around here.

Disturbing to know a brand new car could be in that bad of shape
Yep.

Zach - you have some of the best work and write-ups I have seen on any forum.

I just purchased a brand new 2016 black car. It had just come off the truck and had not gone through any dealer prep.

It was dirty, but seemed to be ok. I requested that they not wash the car as I was concerned about the dealer detailers doing damage. I took it home dirty.

I carefully washed it and discovered some scratches. I'm sure I could have done a better job of pre-purchase inspection. I could have brought my own supplies. I'm not sure what happened in the case of this owner, but things like this happen.

Thank you very much!

Even a vehicle that is fresh off the truck will likely need some loving to achieve as close to perfect as possible. Here is an example of an RS7 that was brought to us immediately after delivery. This vehicle, like yours, was not washed or prepped in any way by the dealership. Simply unloaded and driven to me. You'll notice that there are still many areas that needed attention, so don't be discouraged in your findings.

The Q5 shown in this thread was just abused... the condition of the paint was completely unacceptable for a brand new vehicle.

Black is a love / Hate relationship.... Not a better color clean and a full time job keeping it clean.......
Thankfully the couple that own it are retired and he enjoys taking care of their vehicles :)

Zach, the RS7 is incredible work also. I have a few questions.

1. Is the Q5 a one day job for you?
2. On a project like the RS7, do you remove the wheels to coat the inside? Is that work the effort/risk/liability?

Looking awesome, interested to see how the VX3 performs.

I've been testing it on my personal car along with 22ple VX Pro 2... both are fantastic!

1 - we had roughly 16 man hours into the Q5... so it could be a long one day with two of us working, or 2 days. Since this is a part time business that I operate on weekends, we keep the cars Thursday - Sunday to allow for plenty of time to get the job done right without having to work every hour of our weekend.

2 - We do have a premium wheel service in which we remove the wheels and coat the barrels as well as brake calipers, however the RS7 client did not opt for that. It is worth it to some, and not to others. Just depends.

Here is a new car prep we did on a Hellcat in which the owner had us remove the wheels.
