Coatings vs. Standard LSP'S discussion

I've never seen any coating come close to certain sealant or wax combos in looks ...pinnacle souveran, wg fusion, bf black ice over fire, and many many others. Obviously prep work is key for all situations...but it has to be perfect for coatings and anything less is a waste of money and time.

Coatings need the same meticulous prep work as waxes/sealants. There is no difference. I've never heard of an lsp that looked better without proper prep than another with proper prep.

Is your experience in these comparisons come from where?
 
I think we all agree prep is the differential to any lsp or coating looking incredible. Based on pictures and only pictures only opticoat pro plus looks like a "signature look" that can't be described in words. That is not to say other coatings or sealants don't look amazing but after a 10 hr paint polishing with a menzerna finishing polish as well as a double ipa wipe down the paint took on a deep black look and was a mirror. Very nice for sure but the coating didn't do anything to enhance it.

Same process last year with 5 layers of zaino and the optical effect from the polish was incredible. Again pictures don't show the true level of reflectivity but it was definitely enhanced on the zaino more so than the 22ple.

Conclusion in my opinion only - unless you are willing to pay for a certified installer of the top of the line coating that should give you the durability and shine probably back to a sealant world for me.


 
It wasn't until just last week when I polished the cquk off my car and put a coat of dg105 that I realized that there is an instant difference between coatings and standard LSPs

Pre-Polishing-Agents/Polish-Bonding-Agent/8-oz.-Duragloss-PBA-(Polish-Bonding-Agent)

Is similar to an epoxy (A&B) and bonds chemically when it comes into contact with durable polishes. Duragloss PBA will double the durability and protection of polishes when applied prior to polishing.
Step Saver Tip - Blend 1 part #601 to 4 parts of either #101, 105, 111, or 501 for added durability and gloss. Accelerates the curing process for instant bonding. Apply within 2 hours after mixing for maximum results.

Always read that and never did it lol...always did fine for me though. I'll pick some up st some point and give it a shot though
 
Did you happen to take a picture before the Zaino? Nice gloss.

The long debate....my wax/sealant is better than your coating, etc. Those that prefer wax/sealants...wax away! Going the coating route doesn't mean you demand less on the finish of your car. To the contrary, if I have spent the better part of my weekend compounding and polishing my paint I can assure you that I want the best possible protection. If it's a wax, fine. In my case though, Gloss Coat or Kamikaze ISM. NO wax or other coating will make my car look better. PREP!

My process this weekend (FRI/SAT):

Wash - Iron X Snow Foam
Decon - Iron X then Speedy Prep Towel with IUDJ as lube
Compound: Meguairs M101, CarPro Flash Pads
Polish: Optimum Hyper Polish, white Buff & Shine pads
91% I/A wipedown
Optimum Gloss Coat

I have to disagree with having coatings on my car since I bought it. My dg105 just looks better....but that's my opinion.
 
DG105 on my car looked better than any of the coatings I tried the last three years...and that includes over 10 commercial touchless washes last winter....for under $20

If if you search my screen name you will see some coatings I applied on my own cars.

The bfwd sealant and p21s wax and the polymer net shield all looked great but I can't say better than the coatings I applied. Exo v1, Exo v2, OC 2.0, gloss coat and 22ple all look amazing. The Viking coat looks the best to me but lasts the least of the bunch. I believe that the Viking coat is more of a super sealant than a coating.


I have have not used dura gloss so I cannot compare.


To me the looks are important but not more than the durability. I'm chAsing the best look with the best durability. Perhaps that is why we don't agree. I have more cars than I can take care of. I'm needing the best protection with the easiest wash. My coatings really keep the finish elf cleaning. A rinse and quick wash with mild shampoo is all that needed. Nothing really sticks. That's what I'm looking for.

Yeah, I've heard that "nothing sticks to OC" crap before, but its a false statement, even years ago scottwax had told me that this was an issue for some and that a good APC wash might help...it didn't and while Thomas will disagree and probably pray for wisdom from the optimum gods, this has been an issue no matter what anyone says.

Like you with DG, I cannot comment on viking or exo, since I have not used then, but I have heard very good things about exo v2 to be fair.
