Issue with Collinite 845...

I'm not knocking Collinite 845 by any means. It's a solid product that's been around for ages. Over the last several years I've used various Zaino products on clearcoated wheels and brake dust has been easy to remove. On my F150 with chrome wheels, I grabbed the Collinite 845 to see how well it would hold up. This truck doesn't get driven on a regular basis and it doesn't get washed on a regular basis. Well, anyway, I tried to wash the wheels and they wouldn't come clean. I used wheel cleaner and a stiff brush. It may be that Ford is using some really aggressive brake pads that dust like crazy. I'll probably try a magic eraser and see if that helps get the wheels cleaner.
 
I use it on my f150 wheels never a problem, all I use to clean is the soap that's left from washing.
 
No problems here either. I use a Boars Hair and either DG 901 or 932, I have some of the old version of ONR and Collinite does not like ONR.

I'm not a fan of "wax" or hybrid for wheels. Brake dust is hot enough to melt wax and embed itself.

imho - try an aggressive but safe (ha) wheel cleaner (call ray Monday and ask) and give that a shot
 
Huh, while I've never found 845 all that long-lasting, it (and 476S too) always worked fine for me on wheels.

I've even used *Souveran* on wheels with no problems other than the constant reapplying, but that car doesn't see Track Days.

Overall, I've found the diffs between OptiCoated wheels and LSPed wheels to be quite minimal, really just a matter of durability even on cars that get used hard. E.g., even post-Track Day cleanups go fine.

You didn't use an old version of ONR on them did you? I probably have the same version of ONR as davidc...that stuff is *murder* on Collinite and actually make *all* my wheels a bear to clean (the next time) no matter what I had on them...LSPs or bare, the dust wouldn't wash off the time after I used the ONR, like the brakedust bonded to whatever the ONR left behind.
 
I would say 845 doesn't like a lot of rinseless washes. First time I used 845 and tried a RW with BFRW a week later. Results were awful...had to switch to DGRW+AW.

That being said, BF All Metal Sealant has worked great for me on wheels. After sealing, I just dilute some DG 902 in a spray bottle to wash them and they come perfectly clean. Seems like maybe 4 months before the wheels start feeling not as slick when I wash them, so the high-temp component seems to hold up decent for a sealant.
 
I can't remember ever using a no rinse wash on those wheels. I can't remember the last time I washed the F150 wheels by hand, I'd guess about 6 months. It's been run through a coin op a few times.
 
F body, I find the longer brake dust sits, the more difficult it becomes to remove. I typically clean the wheels on our cars weekly. When I let it go beyond that, it is more of a challenge to clean up.

Eh, then I'd say that's the problem. No matter what I use on wheels (including coatings) or what kind of pads I use (including ceramics), I have to clean my wheels thoroughly by hand at least most of the time (sometimes the pressure washer will get them almost clean enough for a between-real-washes job).

I suspect your vehicles get driven a *lot* more than mine do....but still..

I let them go for pretty long (and Accumulatorette's A8 will see well over a thousand miles on her trips) but they always clean right up with shampoo mix...whether coated or just LSPed they come clean easily.

No idea why I'm getting off so easily with this, but I'm sure not complaining!
 
Generally speaking, I suspect that clearcoated wheels are easier to clean. I know on the TA that the brake dust washes off easily even with ONR.

And going multiple months between washing wheels is pretty hard on any sealant or wax but sometimes other things are higher priorities.
