I don't wanna live on this planet anymore

I have no problem with anyone, period. I'm more of an advocate for ga.y (Wow it's censored), etc. Being I have 3 family members who are, however I find it DISGUSTING that the american people show more love an support ONE MAN getting a sex change then an entire NATION of fallen an wounded soldiers. DISGUSTING!!!!!!!

I definitely think, gender/sex related issues are overlooked and there needs to be a conscious effort to get people to understand these are human beings and should be treated as such, I also believe Bruce is not the person I would want a spokes person/face for a movement.

Were you offended by the OP calling Jenner a fruit loop?

I do not think this automatically reflects American views. As I understand it the voting process is open to fans and media people so not necessarily a cross section of American people. This is something done by media giant ESPN. Just like in every public election, not every one votes so the winner reflects the desires of the ones that do vote. Does 40% voting and getting just over 50% of that vote constitute a mandate of the American people?

Just for clarification, my calling it a fruit loop wasn't in reference it's sexual preference. It's a man who wants to be a woman who I think still said it's attracted to women? ???? I'm not even sure what that adds up to lol.

Calling it a fruit loop was basically referring to it being nutty in the head

No, Fa* yes, but fruit loop? Please. You have to have pretty thin skin if toucan sam's food offends you.

*Cheers to your devils advocate posts, I'm not sure the objective your trying to get at with them*

Just curious. Because that is a term I use privately in my life among friends - just wondering how it was construed by others.

I hope so....

.. Please note, I did not slam Mr. Jenner, I simply stated and feel strongly that his transgender issues are not news worthy. Now if you want to discuss his driving issues... I think he should be serving time. That thought obviously lends itself to the question of where he would serve time, the men's or women's prison? Heck, what do I know? I'm right back to the point I was trying to make. Why am I wasting a thought on his situation?

Heh heh, you and I end up being on the same page after all! Might've known...

Eh, the whole "passing judgment on others" thing is something I work on every day so I might have a bit of a hair-trigger on the topic.

[Why is this being discussed on an Automotive Detailing Forum??????/QUOTE]

Hot Tub ;) Kinda the Wild West of Autopia. Here Be Monsters.

You and me both!

Oh man, you aren't kidding. The history and discovery channel turning to garbage "reality" shows was the final straw to get me to get rid of cable

House of Wax- Specific gripe of mine is American Restoration. They used to show the processes but now it seems like it's all about, uhm... "personalities".

Switching gears a bit but also somewhat relevant to this conversation. Isn't it funny how the definition for terms commonly used in the past are now no longer politically correct? In the past or at least in the exposure I had the term "fruit loop" meant bonkers, out of your mind, crazy or nuts and it didn't mean crazy in the literal sense. Now it's picked up an entirely different meaning for most people. One term that my kids always give me funny looks on is the term thong. I grew up KNOWNG that thongs were a style of sandal(?), footwear mind you. Now it's almost exclusively used to describe an undergarment.

I sincerely believe that civilized people should be sensitive when speaking to or about people. I used the term handicapped in another post, many would now consider this term to be inappropriate. I mean no offense in using that term. The term that is more commonly accepted now is mentally challenged. This said, why does a word or phrase that I've known the definition for years need to change because someone else said it does? I'm not yet convinced that being PC is necessarily what it's cracked up to be. Polite, pleasant, sensitive, yes but PC well...

I think it's much easier for people to use good taste when they speak as opposed to being politically correct. The Internet, email and texting is kicking our butts when it comes to this issue. Reading someones written thoughts as opposed to seeing that person or at least hearing that person speak all to often results in two entirely different outcomes. Voice inflection is so important when conveying thoughts.

Amen brother. A lot of the topics they cover would be interesting if they just gave information about it or were educational, but the obnoxious personalities and the focus on drama makes it unwatchable to me

This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. Titles like stewardess, receptionist, waitress, etc....are all suddenly inappropriate. Who decided this and why?

OK, if you don't want to live on this planet anymore, "this", being the one where your original post came from, congratulations, you don't. The planet where what you thought happened isn't real. There is no second place for the Ashur Ashe Award. You were being misled.

Still, if Jenner had any sense at all she'd turn down the award. In much the same way Sandra Bullock dealt with being named, "The most beautiful woman in the world" by People magazine. She said it was ridiculous. Same thing here. Jenner's sex change was an expression of rich white male privilege - even if it was to become a woman. There shouldn't be an award associated with being able to spend 4 million dollars on yourself.

Rich guys spend money on jets, cars, paintings, houses, yachts, jewelry and all sorts of things and no one says squat about it. It was Jenner's money and how it was spent is none of my concern beyond thinking again, giving someone an award for spending money on themselves is just flat out ridiculous.

Because if the news spent time telling you W's CIA briefer, the guy who gave him the intelligence assessment every day during the run up to the invasion of Iraq that what he was telling the President wasn't what the President was telling us you might get pissed off. So, here's a shiny object for you.

I can be a bit uhm...archaic in my speach and that gets me in trouble with some folks now and then.

It was *really* crazy in academia, one of the things I sure don't miss about that- "Gee, why is politically-incorrect [Accumulator] so much more popular with the minority students than we are?!?"

At least online we can use various methods to convey inflection/context/etc. Not the same as the spoken word, but it *is* something ;) That's why I can sorta overuse such stuff...trying to round over any unintentionally offensive edges.

... Why is this news worthy?

Heh heh, [sarcasm] for the same reason [you-name-it!] is news worthy ;) [/sarcasm]

OK, to be serious for a moment, I'll say that when a high-profile person comes out in some sense like this it can be empowering to those who are externally oriented. Of course just get me going on why so many people are high-profile to begin with.

My wife and I find maybe 5 minutes worth of our local TV news, or maybe two pages worth of the local paper, worth paying attention to. And the grammar/etc. errors make it painful to suffer through.

Heh heh, I'm almost tempted to put my flamesuit to the test by asking why people find [certain commonly held interests] worth following. There's just so much to *do* and *learn* in life, how do folks find time to waste on watching other people do pointless stuff?
