Is Nu Finish as "great" as all of the consumer testing magazines say...?

It seems as though a lot (6 to be exact) leading consumer testing magazines - including consumer reports - state that Nu Finish is the #1 (best) car polish/"wax" out there...

Anyone have any experience with it - or contrary conclusion...?

Lol, any accredited magazine here is immediately discredited.

Start reading, you'll quickly see the light.

It's by no means the best. It's a sealant and in terms of durability, it's pretty good. 4-6 months. However it dusts, is hard to apply thin, and generally not the most easy sealant to put on. Blackfire sealant is many times better.

Thanks - I really like what I am hearing about Blackfire!

Never used NU Finish (I believe its a cleaner wax) but which other lsp's was it competing against in the 6 testing magazines?

I don't have an exact answer for you, but I bet the competing LSP's were just the normal things you see at the store. Turtle Wax, Mothers, Megs. Even compared to a really GOOD OTC wax like Megs Ultimate Paste, Nu-Finsh *might* come out on top because of ease of use and durability. They don't account for depth and different types of shine (glossy/wet vs. brilliant/glassy) like (some) enthusiasts do.

Consumer Reports is perfect for microwaves, irons, and coat hangers. As soon as you get into anything that has an enthusiast base, it's not worth taking into account. Not that the work they do has no value, but enthusiats don't make a dent in the profits of WalMart, BestBuy, Target, AutoZone, Lowes, etc.

We don't need no Consumer Reports, we got Autopia.

I remember using NU Finish 'in a past life'. I remember that the carrier was very dusty and messy. It seemed to do an okay job, but since I moved on and I haven't used it in years, 'nuff said.

I have used it. It is one of the better OTC waxes. Easy on and easy off. Good durability. If I could step back before finding this forum and the need for the latest and greatest product I would be using it. I have FK1000p, Blackfire Crystal seal, Midnight Sun, Wet diamond, UPGP sealant and of all those I think the paint feels slicker with the Nu Finish. JMO.

I don't like to use any product that interchanges the words "polish" and "wax." Not the same thing at all IMO

Only one person posted with actual results, and the rest was the typical look down their nose at "otc" products. Guess who has my respect.....

I used to use it back in the day (way back) and it was one of the better OTC waxes I used. I didn't care for the dusting and if I recall, it would stain the trim if you happened to get some on it. It did clean well and last longer than most the others at the time, but I don't think it lives up to the 'once a year' car wax claim.

After looking at the MSDS, I realized why it was a good 'cleaner'. It used to be about 25% stoddard solvent (the newer formula is only about 12%).

Based on the products tested, I can believe the results and how the test and products apply to the average car owner.

It get's a bad rap around forums like these. It's not an enthusiast's product but it's cheap, easily accessible, pretty durable and doesn't require a pristine surface to be effective. What's not to like (if you're an average car owner)?

No, your both one siding it. The truth is there are much better value products out. Please don't act like were bashing it because its basic user level product or isn't expensive enough. I've dealth with hundreds of products, I''ll be the first to say I have had swissvax in the past an thought for what it was it was in no way worth it. Between sealants like reload, blackfire wet diamond and menz powerlock there are much better an even more cost effective products. Were not judging, we just don't always jot down every alternative that IS better value.

Weigh in look, ease of application/time an not just cost. Then things become a very different view. Personally the most cost effect product is Hydro2 hands down. My rules 21 is a better value then my pcxp, why because the initial cost was more but the time saved through even 5 corrections has paid for itself. People need to stop looking at just dollar figures. I mean, hey I could use a screw driver an other basic hand tools to build a house, might take a couple of years but it is cheaper....

UUWW is a perfect example of a pro level product, anyone can use, beyond incredible value. It may not be OTC but it beats ALL OTC's in value.

No, I'm not one-siding it. You're waaay to passionate about it. Your average person knows nothing about any of the products that you mention and in my statement that you quoted, I mention the average car owner. That's who the product is aimed at and it's not bad. I've used it, apply it thin and take it off and it really doesn't look bad at all. I don't use it any more but I can see a use for it.

As for value...$8 bucks for 16 oz. I don't think I'd ever finish the bottle in my lifetime.

Yup, an when people come here or to my shop that's exactly the type of person they are looking for. Thats why I'm here.

, I mention the average car owner.

If your an average car owner, you wouldn't be here looking for answers.

Not a bad deal but if your here asking, I'll point you to the light not send you back in the dark.

I admire your passion...I think it's misguided...but you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

Average car owners do come here, some stay and become detailing enthusiasts (myself included), others leave because they feel they can't adequately take care of their vehicles paint. In short they get overwhelmed. The average protection you put on your car is far better than the awesome protection you don't. To say one product or viewpoint is "the light" and the other is "the dark" is rather binary

I suspect we will never have the same point of view on this product, so perhaps agreeing to disagree is what we could agree on.

I had used it years ago but I did not like the smell and stained trim easily but then I knew a lot less. I still would not use it for the smell.
