M101 - has it disappeared from the forum - stirring the pot

Where has M101 gone?
I know there has been a few new and older exciting compounds around and coming out. HD Cut, HD Adapt, Sonax Cut Max, FG400. I'm sure there are more but those would be on my short list. They have the same place as M101 great cut, fast and finish down well. I have not seen much chat about M101. I'm just stirring the pot here. Curious to see what others are using and if they have given up on M101 or has it just cemented itself as one of the best compounds around so discussing it any further is a moot point.

This also an inquiry since there has not been much chat about it seeing what techniques, pads and machines everyone has been using.
 
There are just so many good compounds that it can get overlooked. I still have some and just recently used it. I would recommend it over M105 any day of the week.

This last time I used it, I used it on the new MT300 and the new thin burgundy cutting disc to get some deeper defects out and I was surprised that it finished LSP ready on this paint that is on the medium end of things.
 
I'm still waiting for somebody, *anybody* to be disappointed with HD Polish. I'm not big fan of Cut, but that's just me.

Not the best cut, dusted for me no matter how I used it, and ALWAYS destroyed the sprayer so I would end up having to pour it out. You can get much better than OHC.

Optimum Hyper Polish on the other hand is everything they have claimed it was. That is my go to polish, as I haven't tried many new ones lately, but honestly have no real want because to me it's that good.
 
i have 12+ gallons stash of M101. the dust & short work time for me is a real problem. i mix it with M105 sometimes or use it straight.
 
No reason to use dust bombs when I can use something like HD Cut and get a better finish, no dust, and easier removal.
 
I have seen what M101 can do considering what is out there right now. On par if not equal or better then some compounds personal preference included. Seems like dusting is opinion. I have seen it dust working the compound too much, rushing. I guess due to weather, humidity, pad choices and other variables.
IMO I would rather get a possible LSP ready finish with a compound and have to deal with a little dust clean up then do a a follow up polishing. Much rather work a MF towel then a polisher.

HD Cut seems to be very pad-dependent; doesn't cut well enough for me to even be considered a "Compound". Trying to do tight spots by hand with it was an execise in frustration.

Now, as a "moderately aggressive polish" the Cut is OK for me. But when I want to *CUT CLEARCOAT OFF* I want something that will do exactly that, including by hand.

Don't know about the by hand part, but I've had no problem with Cut's leveling abilities personally. Right on par with 105 in my opinion.
 
I agree that M105 is a nowhere is good as 101, matter of fact, I took the dusty bottle of 105 off the shelf and trued in my new scope. I have M101 and D300 and use them most of the time. I still have some 3D/HD stuff that I haven't gotten around to trying. I guess it's easier to use what you know and know how it works that to try to break in something new. I don't care for full details much anymore, it's a combo of age, and just not that into detailing - I have enough to do handling the maintenance wash/waxes.
 
Junebug- That "I have enough to do handling the maintenance wash/wax" sounds very sensible to me ;)

Can't quite bring myself to use unloved products for target practice though, it'd be a little too much like shooting at money.
 
I still have lots of love for M101.

If it dusts then I use a drop or two of D300 or Megs UC just to kill the dusting, it works great.
 
I agree with D300 being very good as well. I just used it with the new Meguiar's thin cutting foam disc and it corrected very well.
