Zenith Blue prep and waxing advice

Tralfaz

Chemically dependent
I own a 97 zenith blue(a metallic blue) carrera which I would like to prep and wax.

I have some of the Zaino products and love them, then again I have no experience with anything else. From reading posts here and elsewhere it is apparent that certain colors of paint respond better to certain products. My questions:

1. Does anyone have any good advice or experience working with this color? Paint is in excellent condition. You know I want it perfect!

2. No real swirl marks but some minor abrasions in clear coat, what product should I use to remove these?

3. Should I invest in a PorterCable or is this asking for trouble as Mr. Bozo has not used one before?

Any advice is appreciated!:wavey

There is a lot of great info here ready to be discovered. If you have not done so, I recommend clicking on the "Learn!" pic icon at the top of the page and reading the various articles. There are also great articles posted here: http://www.autopia-carcare.com/detailingtips1.html

This info should get you started on how to get your car looking its best. I cannot recall if anyone has a car just like yours but we do have a number of Porsche owners, including our Mayor, DavidB, and there are many posts specifically discussing Porsche paint care. You might want to do a search for them.

Sounds like a nice car you've got. Post a few pics when you're done with your detailing so we all can check it out.

Tralfaz- Welcome to Autopia! For minor marring, I'm getting good results with 3M's PI-III machine glaze. And no, you won't hurt anything with a PC unless you drop it on the car.

If you can, post a pic of the car so those of us who aren't up to date on our Porsche colors can see what Zenith Blue looks like. I THINK I know what you have, but I'm not sure. You're right about how some colors look better with certain products than they do with others, but it ends up being a personal preference anyhow.

As said, check out the Learn! link and try running some searches for Porsche threads. There should be a new version of the Autopia eBook due soon too.

It's hard to recommend how to deal with "minor abrasions" without seeing them in person, but if you're unsure the default is to start with some milder product, then switch to a stronger product if that doesn't do the trick.

If you think you can (or should! :D) afford to get a PC with its accessories, it is worth it as a long-term investment. All cars need polishing once in a while, and a PC is a great labor saver.
