I'm contemplating getting an orbital polisher, but not sure if I even need one. Is it recommended or even worth the money to apply polishes and sealants like Blackfire or Klasse?

I know ppl swear by the porter cable polisher, but the cheapest I've seen them are $110 on ebay. Is this a typical price for a good quality polisher? I've seen wen brand ones for much cheaper.

The Porter Cable is the best for random orbital polishers. You can get new ones at www.coastaltool.com for $115 shipped.

I like to apply sealants by hand rather than by machine. I feel you can get a much thinner coat by hand than by machine, that way you don't waste product and removal will be easier. You could use the polisher for removal if you so choose.

The real time saver with the PC is using abrasives. It really cuts down on application time to remove swirls, and gives great results. :up

The motor is much stronger, and it has lots of speed settings. Most of the el cheapo ones have a motor that is 1 amp or less, and have no speed controls. They motors themselves also don't last very long. The motor on the PC is 3.7 amps, it's assembled much better and is just a better quality tool. The PC's motor is about as strong as you can get in a random orbital, to get more you would have to go to a direct drive rotary. I don't recommend rotarys to many people, you must have a lot of expierence or you can literally destroy your entire finish with a rotary.

No, random orbital polishers will not create swirls. They do not spin in a circle, they move in a figure eight motion. Also, random orbitals don't generate much heat which can cause buffer burns. Direct drive rotarys spin in circles and can cause bad swirls and buffer burns that can go right through the paint if you don't know how to use them.

what I did was buy a $29 from Harbor Freight just to get the feel of it. I basically only use it as a final polisher (wax) with a wool bonnet. I wipe the wax off by hand and then use the buffer. It (IMHO) does give a better shine. The buffer is only .65 amp and thus probably can't hurt anything as it is light and doesn't have the power. Again-this is not a professional talking. Just saying what works for me.

I have really learned a lot from this forum.

Wow, coastaltool.com is so much cheaper than the PC 7424 being sold at CMA ($159.95 + 17.95 shipping vs. $115 shipped). I know the CMA version comes with the $8.95 backing plate though.

In reading the coastal tool site, it mentions things about 5" vs 6" plates and counterweights. What specifically do I need? I want to be able to apply some SMR to my car and buff/polish out my Klasse in the future. I'm thinking this is a better use of mymoney instead of paying $100 for a pro-detailer to do a one time swirl removing treatment.

I find that it does not deliver the results I'm looking for. I would suggest getting a rotary buffer if your looking to remove scratches or large amounts of swirls.

The PC 7424 is great for applying wax, and polishes. Applying synthetic products is better left to elbow grease.

For a person with no expierence using a power buffer, I would not recommend a rotary buffer. In the wrong hands you can do more harm than good. For someone starting out, the PC is a good choice.

I agree on the issue of experiance. However, it's something that can be learned in short order. Most important is being careful and deliberate when using one.

I bought my PC from here:
http://www.right-tool.com/6varspeedran.html
I paid $134.95 and it was shipped and delivered just as promised. I hadn't used a buffer before and have used it on both of my own cars and several other peoples cars. I've used 3M rubbing compound and swirl remover with no problems at all. It appears to be pretty difficult to actually do any damage with the PC, as I've pushed it pretty hard at times. I even wet sanded my entire Jeep Cherokee, used the PC with both rubbing compound and swirl remover without ever breaking through the clear coat. Now, I was really carefull on tops of fenders, etc to prevent problems. I bought the PC accessory kit for $59.00 from http://www.properautocare.com/porcabackit.html because the foam pad that comes with the PC is permanently attached to the backing plate. With the accessory kit, you get a backing plate with velcro so you only replace the pads when they wear out, plus changing to different types of pads is a snap.

why
Acid rain is rain or any other form of precipitation that is unusually acidic, ..... Places like much of Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand

Acid rain is rain or any other form of precipitation that is unusually acidic, i.e. elevated levels of hydrogen ions (low pH). It can have harmful effects on plants, aquatic animals, and infrastructure through the process of wet deposition. Acid rain is caused by emissions of compounds of ammonium, carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur which react with the water molecules in the atmosphere to produce acids. Governments have made efforts since the 1970s to reduce the production of sulfur dioxide into the Earth's atmosphere with positive results

Human health

Scientists have suggested direct links to human health.[31] Fine particles, a large fraction of which are formed from the same gases as acid rain (sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide), have been shown to cause premature deaths and illnesses such as cancer and other diseases.[32] For more information on the health effects of aerosols see particulate health effects.

It is very Normal to see such a paint condition if the car is not wash for weeks...the amount of acid contaminates the paint
