Zaino Z5 and Z1 question.

GlossyTundra

Tractor Detailer
So I bought some samples of Z1 Z2 Z5 off another member. Correct my process if needed.

1. wash with blue dawn

2. apply z1

3. apply z5(with pc and white pad or not?)

4. apply z1 again

5. apply z2

6. succesive coats 24hrs apart without z1

I am just getting my feet wet with the whole zaino thing. I have high expectations for this "wonder product".

Thanks

Brandon

I agree that you only need Z1 once, but I would start with Z5 because it will fill your scratches.

Wash with dawn

Z1

Z5

Z2

Z2

It will help if you use Z6 between your coats of Z5 and Z2.

Apply Z1, Z5 and Z2 (if you have some) by hand using a cotton or MF applicator. PC can be a little wasteful until you get that hang of applying Zaino manually.

Order of application:

Z1, Z5 x 3 or 4 coats, finish with Z2.

Since you are using Z1 you must wait 24 hrs between applications.

Like all LSP's, prep is important. A Dawn wash will expose all your surface blemishes that may have been hidden by previous LSP. Some form of polishing, claying and / or cleansing will improve results.

I dont know if it was nessisary, but I just AIO'd for the heck of it. And I always wanted to see what AIO by itself looks like.

blkz28conv- do I really have to wait 24hrs between coats. And are all the coats of z5 nessisary? Sorry to ask so many ?'s, new to Zaino like I said!

pontman43-sorry man, I got outbidded on the lot of zaino and clearkote products last week, ever since then, the hunt for zaino has been massive.

what color is your car? You use Z5 to fill in swirls/scratches. You can switch to Z2 whenver you feel like it.

There are mixed thought on using AIO under zaino. Apparently it leaves a film and may interfere with zaino bonding. I'd alcohol wipe before you start.

You have to wait 24hrs if you are using z1. Or you can spend 20 for the new ZFX from www.zainobros.com

It's a mettalic grey. I will do the dawn wash tomorrow, will that serve the same purpose? I was going to buy the zfx and the z2pro, but these are samples and I would like to know if I like them before plopping down 50 bucks for a order.

Thats where I am now. lol Good luck with the zaino, but if you dont like it you know who to contact to resell it. :D

Just remember THIN coats. 1 ounce should me more than enough for the average size car if not a second coat. I pefer the microfiber applicators and once it has some product on it, a pea size drop should do a body panel or half of the hood.

Hi Brandon1,

When not using ZFX (using Z1) one must wait at least 24 hrs (16-24 hrs depending on humidity and temperature) between coats in order to actually "layer" Z polishes. Each coat (layer) needs to be fully cured (completion of cross-linking) before another layer can be added. If an additional layer is applied prior to this completely cured state, disruption of forming bonds (links) will be disrupted.

No, 3 or 4 coats are only necessary if surface is not prepped to pristine condition. Not to brag but on my garage queen black Z28 I only apply one coat of Z5 and that application has the ability to complete nullify (hide) any visual appearance of surface imperfections. On my daily driver I need 2 coats to greatly "reduce" the appearance of surface blemishes. After 3-4 coats further chasing the Z5's ability to hide surface blemishes is not fruitful. The blemish should be repaired (polished out or made less severe). IMHO

Hope this helps. :wavey

Z5 will only "hide" so much. IMO it will only hide the smallest of surface or clear coat imperfections and tiny scratches. On my garage queen where i only have a few small imperfections and scratches Z5 fits the bill and makes my finish look almost flawless. It sure makes me feel better!!
