Zaino Z2Pro seems to attract dust

I just used Z2Pro on my car, I have noticed that the dust deposit on it is unusually thick for just one day. We do not have a dusty condition, and my other cars doesnt seem to have much. The other cars have not been washed for several days. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem ?

Mochamanz:

I put the old Z2, Z2Pro/zfx, UPP, AIO and Z2Pro/no zfx on the hood of one of my own cars a few days ago.

I too noticed some dust attraction, mainly on the UPP and Z2 Pro/no zfx but also to some extent on the Z2 Pro/zfx.

I really do not know for a fact what causes the dust attraction, but I suspect that it may be related to the build up of static while detailing or dust attraction before the sealants fully crosslink and cure.

What I do know is that dust attraction problems normally go away with the first wash. If you have not already done so, wait for 24 hours for the Z2 Pro to fully crosslink and then give it a light wash, this may take care of the problem for you.

I wish I could help more, but I'm still experimenting with Z2 pro myself. Good luck!

I noticed this with ZFX'd Z2 pro as well. Since it was my first exposure to it I was not sure if this was normal?? It has indeed greatly subsided after a few wash/Z-6 combo's.

I seem to have that problem more with carnuba's. I always use Z6

after each coat and the last coay as well. I also think that the MFT have more static than the cotton towels. I still use MF though.

Some people had the same issue with the regular Z2. I always used Z6 very frequetly and liberally, and never seemed to have much of a problem............. at least no worse than any other products?

I always found Zaino to attract more dust than say S100 or any Carnubas. I would guess your enviroment has a lot to do with it since others claim the exact opposite

Thanks for all the help, although I have to point out that the area is not dusty at all. I will wash the car and see if it works. Thanks again :)

I'd go along with â€Ëœstaticâ€â„¢; if you create friction with a polyester (Microfiber) towel it will create static (this will also happen with cotton but to a lesser extent. (As has been suggested neutralize it with water (washing) or a QD spray

FWIW- the above reasons are why I view claims that products are 'anti-static' [causing friction on a plasic(polymer) with a plastic (polyester)= static]as marketing hype.

Actually, UPP gives me the most problems with static electricity and it does attract dust until the first wash. I never noticed it in the summer though.

Scott: Thats in line with the side by side testing I am doing now, with the old Z2, Z2 Pro and UPP. On the last "fun" panel I have AIO on the bottom half and Z2 with no Zfx on the top half!

Dust attraction within the first 24 hours in 60F dry, low humidity weather, in order from worst to best: UPP (worst), Z2 Pro no zfx (almost as bad as UPP), Z2 Pro with zfx (better), old Z2 with zfx (best).

I still wonder if there is something else in play here in addition to the static attracting dust. The order above is the same order I would place these sealants in for initial slickness (from application out to 24 hours). I really wonder if the sealants ability to hold on to dust is due, at least in part, to their initial oilyness. Either way, I do not consider it to be a huge issue and expect the first wash to remedy most of the problem.

Thanks for your post Redondo it is interesting. I found that the old Zaino was the best at repelling dust and never understood how people had dust issues with that product. I haven't used Pro enough to comment on any dusting issues because all the cars I detailed with pro are not in my area and I haven't seen them since. I was using up my old Z2 lately but I'm getting ready to use the Pro locally. Anyhow, I find it most interesting that using ZFX lowered Dust attraction. Thanks again I'm going to have to check that out for myself.

Thanks Burlyq, I'll look forward to your posts on the subject too, when you've had time to use Z2 Pro on vehicles local to you. The more feedback on this the better picture we will have to see if my results are freakish or if there is a tendency for UPP and Z2 Pro to attract some dust. I'm a little surprised we haven't heard from more of the regular UPP users on dust attraction issues, go figure?

One thing I want to make clear, is that the dusting issue I'm talking about isn't a major problem, the real reason I noticed the dust, was that I was testing each panel with my finger and then a MF for slickness at the 24hr mark.

It's been raining here for three days, two days of light rain and a heavier rain today. Interestingly although all the sealants are beading well, their relative slickness is changing big time, but more about that when I post my review ;)

Mike-I think the fact that UPP is somewhat oily (at least the version I had was) does explain at least some of the dust attraction but I know when I am using it, I can hear my MF towels crackling with static more than with any other product.

Not really a knock against UPP just an observation.

Again, how are you caring for your towels?

I use a colloidal cleaner which makes the particles of dust, debris and grease/oil repellant to one another. This repellant action includes Polymer remnants imbedded in foam pads of all types. I use 100% cotton towels usually. I dry them (towels) in a dryer with no fabric softener. Cleaning product is called G510.
