Anyone see any problems with my plan, other than it will take a long time? That doesn't matter to me though.

What types of microfiber cloths should I use and where can I purchase them?

Any suggestions welcome. I am new here and wish to learn.

I would only Dawn wash once before applying Zaino Z2 or Z5. For any of the other washes I would use a regular car wash solution.

I doesn't do any good to put P21S over Zaino. It won't improve your depth of shine. Zaino is a sealant with less clarity that P21S, which is a pure wax. For example if you put P21S, with a clarity of 100, over top of Zaino, with a clarity or 80, you will still have only a clarity of 80. Make sense?

Ummm..... maybe you have that clarity thing backwards. No carnauba wax has more "clarity" than Zaino, which is 100% optically clear. Topping Zaino with a wax will reduce reflectivity due to the oils and other ingredients that are not in Zaino.

The only reason to top any sealant with a carnauba is to alter the paint's looks. Some people like the glow a wax provides over the sharp reflections that some sealants offer.

Well, maybe you can educate me. I didn't know that Zaino was 100% optically clear. I've heard this before, but never knew it to be true. I always thought that since it was a sealant, it could not achieve that a pure Carnuba could. I always hear that people would rather use a Carnuba (doesn't last as long) rather than a sealant (lasts forever says Zaino). So does this mean that Zaino would provide the deepest shine on black? Black is what I have? Please advise. I've always used Carnuba...P21S etc. What do you say?

No sealant lasts "forever" and I don't think the Zaino website says it does.

Zaino is more optically clear compared to a carnaba wax so you will get more reflectivity.

For a deep, dark shine on black a product containing carnauba-(there is no such thing as a pure carnauba wax) cuts down somewhat on reflectivity as compared to Zaino so it does increase depth of color.

Putting P21S over Zaino increases the depth of color or provides "the glow of wax" as Bret states. Some people like the look: some don't--it is a matter of individual taste.

People like carnaubas for looks, especially on dark colored cars where some sealants provide a glossy shine that some feel is too glossy. Its the oils and other waxes in a product like P21S (there is no such thing as 100% carnauba car wax) that gives paint a glow that many users like.

But its the oils and carnauba that limit the clarity and gloss compared to a product like Zaino which has neither ingredient. Carnauba itself is dull and flat looking. As I type this I'm looking at a 1/4 lb bag of carnauba wax and it looks like the color of swiss cheese and about as clear. Carnauba is nature's most durable wax but far from the best looking. It's stuff like beeswax, montan, and parrafin wax that provides shine and gloss.

So it comes down to what look you prefer and what your priorities are. Waxes have very limited durability, most are 4-8 weeks before they're gone. They cannot hold up to high temps; evap temp is around 140*F while a good sealant can hold up to 400*F+. And a strong car wash will strip wax off ASAP if not sooner. For people who want a low maintenance/high durability product, they're better off with a sealant than a wax. For those who are frequently cleaning and detailing their cars, things like durability are less of an issue since they'll just slap on another coat of product every week or so.

Decide what you need a product to do for you, then shop around till you find it. If a carnauba fits your needs, great! If not, there are other products available that will serve you well. This forum exists to decipher, discuss, and debate the merits of car care products. Spend some time reading posts and you'll learn a lot.

Wow, thanks for all the info, I think I will go the Zaino with Carnuba topper for the Accord. Not sure yet, but I might just use Carnuba only on the Firebird, would that have more depth than using Ziano and Carnuba? I still need to figure out where I will buy my microfiber cloths and wash mitts.
