Zaino vs. 97' Altima

1997 Nissan Altima: 150K on the clock.

I watch a neighbor wash his family’s 2 SUV’s and son’s Altima weekly with a bucket & boat brush, dried with beach towels. Ahhhh the horror!!

The son asked me for some help a few weeks ago.

This one took ~ 5 Hours (and could have used more, but I didn't have the time).

Process Used:

Wash:

Dawn, Sheepskin mitts & brushes.

Wheels, Wells, and Tires: A2Z

Yellow Bug Block on the tar & build up on the lower panels & front bumper.

Polish:

Zaino Clay, using Dawn wash as lube

Z-PC via Metabo @ 1500-1800 RPM using GM black lambs-wool polishing pads.

Z-AIO via Metabo @ 1100 RPM using a CCS white polishing pad

Z6 Wipe down after polishing duties.

Protect:

Zaino CS on everything…. paint, glass, trim, wheels, jams

Z16 on the tires & rubber around the jams.

CD-2 on the wells.

John, The first few pics are just plain scary!

Excellent recovery!!! How do you get a look like that from just polishing and CS?

ZAIO seems to have cleaned up the wool effect very well.

Never expect Z-PC and Z-AIO to do this kind of correction. Excellent defects removal job and the car looks deep and glossy.

Thanks Bryan.

Z-PC and a wool polishing pad can be burnished down to a pretty nice looking finish -good enough for ZAIO to do the clean up work on the marring effects left behind. For this detail, I used wool pads from our local GM plant, which are not heavy cut. You have to make a few passes, but they finish pretty nice on black (for a wool pad).

If you have time, can you PM me on the wool pads/distributor that you've been using?

I'd like to try them out too.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

The owner (high school guy -first car) was very happy with the outcome, which makes it all worth while.

blkZ28Conv: We covered the basics of car washing.

It was funny that he could pin point a few scars/rashes on the paint when he dropped off the car, but his eyes didn't flinch a bit at the severe swirls. I showed him the before shots when he picked up his car and he couldn't believe it.

I'm pretty sure that Autopians are in the 1-2% percentile of folks that have an 'eye' for paint finishes. LOL.

John,

Sometimes I wonder if we are cursed by our inability not to focus in on swirls. Life was so much easier when I just noticed shine, color hue and depth of wetness and swirls just added character.:cooleek:

LOL. Well if you ask my wife, she'll report that it's a disease -much worse than heroin addiction.

Are you fully recovered and detailing again?

How did your Zaino treatment hold up over the Chicago winter?

Funny that I ask now.... since we're rapidly approaching late summer :rofl
