Zaino purchase, last minute questions....

JaCkaL829

it was my first time...
Hi, as my title says i'm looking to buy some Zaino for my car with winter looming. I haven't been *thrilled* with Meguiar's #21, 4* UPP and some others; so I'm hoping the legendary Zaino durability will protect my ride. I'm not looking to buy the whole kit; just some Z5 Pro for my sealant and the Z8 spray sealant for in between. So my question is do people get good durability without the ZFX? At $20 it's kinda steep, not to mention it has a limited shelf life. I'm thinking about doing my normal wash/clay/polish then do a coat of Z5 Pro then maybe a second coat 24 hours later then would I wait another 24 hours to wipe it down with the Z8 or can I do that immediately after my second application of Z5?

Sorry if I'm questions are redudant, I haven't been on here for quite some time.

Thanks!

I have gotten great durability out of the Z2pro using the Z1 instead of the ZFX. it is a little more work but 2 coats easily lasted through some bad winters here in Pa. I would say Z5 pro would work in the same manner. I have done 2 coats back to back on the Z5pro using the Z1 on the first then applying a second one shortly after the first. I do have a few ounces of Z1 if you are looking to save a buck or two. have done a Z8 wipe down after 12 hours, when I had to and it held up very well. this has worked for me and cars that I detailed with it. others may do it a little different.

You will get optimum durability with ZFX, but Z5 Pro will still have good durability by itself. I think ZFX is worth the price, but that's up to you.

Z8 is super concentrated. You can use it after your Z5 Pro application, but remember to use it very sparingly.

Zaino is great stuff, I went with Duragloss very similar to Zaino at a fraction of the price.

from the duragloss.com site ordered four items.

pre bonding agent

#105 polish

#951 aqua wax

dark trim wax remover

total with shipping from north Carolina got it in two days $32 I'm very happy this stuff is great.

I've been skeptical of ZFX for several years. From personal experience Z1/Z2pro was pretty durable. I've tried Z2pro without Z1 or Zfx and even though it is good it didn't have the intense beading that I've gotten with ZFX. Basically ZFX makes Zaino crosslink faster and tighter and improves surface adhesion. I'd reccomend ZFX, Z5pro, Z8 and Z6. remember this stuff can be applied microthin and will last several years of usage and costs less than some carnaubas that only last 4 weeks.

Nice truck, that aqua wax makes it easy on a big rig.

Thanks..I have two bottles of Z-8 and I reach for the AW most all of the time.

I own two dark colored cars, and with Z-8 being "heat activated" (still not sure what this means) and the Florida heat I was having a hard time with Z-8 streaking (yes I was using light sprays).

AW does makes it easy, it lasts, and it looks awesome.

Hmmm, if you have Z-8 streaking you must be using too much. Just use a small mist per panel and wipe with a quality mf.

I don't think so....It works ok when I can apply it to a cool surface, however I live in Florida so thats like almost never.

Have you used Z8 on anything other than Silver?

I like Z-6....but Z8 tends to be too finicky with my dark paint and the heat combo.

You're being too modest...you were the biggest Zaino skeptic on the forum! :) The fact that you have turned 180° I think is a testament to the product. It's not for everybody, and I still/also use all kinds of other stuff, but it's certainly excellent.

Well I was up there as well preaching a mix of AIO and Souveran which still looks great but I think Zaino has caught up in the looks department and offers that tremendous durability.

Z8 can be a bit tricky at times. You can add distilled water to it. I've found that using a suede MF cloth (Walmart and Target) allows Z8 to spread evenly and then wipe to a high shine.

i would go with the ZFX and Z6 instead of the Z8 if your concerned about price

I think I might go that route, still not sure if I wanna spend the extra $ for the Z8 instead of the Z6. How much better does the Z8 increase protection? I'm wondering if it's like these spray waxes that only a week or two, or if does actually help for a long time.

For you guys who ordered in NJ do you order seperately? I was redirected on the website to an e-mail which I e-mailed and it gave me an auto response that was pretty vague. I wouldn't mind physically picking it up, but not if i have to drive down to Howell, NJ. I'm wondering if there are any closer locations?

Carl Voellm is a distributor for NJ, his website is -

Carl Voellm's Home Page

I usually get my order to NJ the next day after i place the order. Same prices and shipping as on Zaino's website.

Z5Pro / ZFX and Z8 is great. Z8 is worth the extra price to me after trying it although there is nothing wrong at all if you just get Z6.

Z8 is a "spray" sealant. It definitely adds to durability to the point that one application session (1-3 layers) of the sealant (Z2 or Z5) will last well over 6 months with the vehicle appearing "just" detailed after each wash.

Z sealants require either Z1 or ZFX for "the system" to function properly (durability and appearance-wise).:wavey

For the best results, I'd do the ZFX and Z5-Pro. Z8 is more of a WOW factor QD spray. For general cleaning and use between each coat, Z6 works better. Z6 cleans a bit better that Z8 and is less costly. As some have streaking problems with Z8, go with Z6.

Z8 is more for those days you really want that added WOW factor. That it does and very well. If the finish is really warm, Z8 can streak, but so far, I've not had that problem.

Zaino beads water very tight as well and makes cleanup very quick and easy. Some just use ONR or QEW for washing in winter with great results.

If you're driving this car through the winter, it would pay to go the ZFX/Z5-Pro and Z6. Get the Z8 and Z2-Pro in spring.

Don't forget the wheels! Zaino works great in easy brake dust cleanup.

Also, keep an eye on the Polycharger threads for updates. Polycharger added to Zaino seems to work pretty well. David has not released it yet, but soon I would think.

Just remember, Zaino goes a long way since you use so little. The more coats you apply, the better it gets. 2-coats is a good start just to make sure all areas are covered from any missed spots.

Deanski

Johnny...I am so done with driving to Howell...I'll order from Voellm next time, but I wish he'd get a real web store going! The Z8 is really fantastic, and you use such a small amount (on a clean car). If you have used DG AW, the Z8 is even better, and as blkZ28Conv says, it seems to extend the life of your Zaino base almost indefinitely. If you're really on a budget...AW is a fine substitute (although I personally have never used it over Z).
