Zaino prep question

I have never used any Zaino product, but just put an order in for zfx, z2 pro, z5 pro and z6. I was wondering if after claying, polishing if it would be okay to use DG 501 or Klasse AIO before apllying the Zaino. I guess in short are the 2 afore mention products okay to use as a base for "z" instead of ZAIO?

I wouldn't use anything as a base other than ZAIO, but you don't NEED to use ZAIO as a base. You can use Z2, or Z5 all by itself.

Eh, come on, tons of people here used to use KAIO under Zaino before there was ZAIO, including, if IIRC ol' David North who became a lynch pin of "hate club", which is Zaino central. And some of us think that DG is suspiciously similar to Zaino, so I wouldn't have any worries about using one of their products as a base, either. Of course, to be safe, you could make sure the surface is bare or ZAIO it, but I haven't fallen in love with ZAIO yet...maybe next time I use it in the spring.

As a proud member of detailers club (SA's favorite place to lurk ;) ) I don't think using KAIO or DG will hurt anything but if you want the best results, ZAIO will be your best bet.

I just wrote that I (I being the key word here) would not use anything other than ZAIO as a base.

But I (Again I being the key word here) would probably not even bother with ZAIO or anything else as a base since it's not necessary.

But hey if you want to spend more money on ZAIO or KSG or anything else that turns your knob go right ahead.

Shoot, I haven't lurked there since about the first month when they shut out lurkers. Besides, the best clubs have secret sessions, right? You can't find out what goes on in a Skull & Bones or Free Mason meeting.

Shoot, I haven't spent any money on detailing supplies in I don't know how long, other than those orange Vrooms a couple weeks ago that I took half of to work. I have enough supplies to last me till I'm dead, and still have enough left over for you in my will.

Er..edit...I kind of forgot about that glass polishing stuff from a few months ago...

I wouldn't belong to any club that would have me as a member! At the beginning you could lurk without registering, but they cut that out pretty soon after all the bad press they were getting over here, remember? Shoot, last time I looked at the home page, they only had like 3000 members, and I'm not one of them.

PS Was that one of your guys who made that Hudson landing the other week?

I actually dont want to spend more money. I already have KAIO and DG 501 that's why I asked if they would be okay. I do want the best possible results I can achieve however. I know per the Zaino site that a cleaner type product is not actually "needed" if using ZFX. I'll probably just clay,po106ff, give a CG Citrus Wash & Gloss wash(to clear out the 106 remanants) give a quick z6 wipe and go on to the z2 or z5. But again, I might give it a KAIO base, depending on if I get an overall consensus here as to whether or not it would be beneficial. Then again,I guess the ole 50/50 wipedown would work as well. I do appreciate everyone's responses here and just looking for a "best practices" type thing since I have never used this stuff before. :2thumbs:

If you weren't going to be polishing beforehand, I think the KAIO would be beneficial, but as long as you get the P0106 oils off, you'll probably be better without it. Why don't you do a Sal and Dawn wash after the polishing?

DG105 contains carnauba doesn't it? If so I wouldn't use it under Z2pro. Kaio would work fine.

I think dg105 is a polymer/resin type thing. I was asking about the dg 501 which is a marine cleaner/sealant which many here use as an AIO/Pre-cleaner product before applying dg105. I have read posts where it makes a great base for many sealants.

Setec, you think Dawn would do a better job of stripping polish oils than the CWG?

I dunno, I don't have CW&G...but it does say GLOSS which usually means it has some glossing agents which would be antithetical to bare paint...of course, the Z6 may take that off. Don't listen to me, listen to the DClub guys!

Um ok... so my original point still stands that you don't HAVE to use ANYTHING under the z2 pro or the z5 pro.

I'm not sure how better I can explain that.

Anyone ever tell you that you're like talking to a woman?

Setec - I once had this huge crush on a girl - we had everything in common - well, maybe too much as she like women as much as me!
