Zaino over NXT as Topper

I searched the forums and seems no one have try this before.

Here in Hong Kong, it is very hard to get professional grade detailing products.

I now have both Zaino (z2,z5, zfx) and NXT and colorX. I wonder if I can put zaino over the NXT.

Reason is NXT can hide the swirl mark on my black car and with Zaino on top, the durability should be better than just NXT.

Has anyone try this combo before? Pls. comment. I need to know if Zaino can bond properly over the NXT since NXT is not a carnuba and is a polymer itself.

Thanks a lot for your advise!!!!

Lei How!

Fellow HKer here (but I live in Manila now), I don't think the premise of topping NXT with Z would yeild a longer durability for your paint. My theory is that Zaino will be bonding to the NXT layer, not to the paint, hence, when the NXT layer starts to deteriorate, so will the Z.

I found Zaino to hide the swirls much better than NXT. I would use one of the swirl removers that people on here use to remove the swirls like 3m ssr 39009 or PB ssr1 or one of the menzerna or 1Z products, then just follow up with Zaino. NXT will just interfere with your Zaino bonding.

As said on my original message, I'm in Hong Kong and is very hard to buy the stuff you mentioned (ssr, PB, menzerna, 1Z etc).

The Meguiars consumer line is easy to access to because the distributor in HK is just 2 blocks from my home.

Can you suggest a product from Meguiars consumer line to remove swirl marks and competitable to Zaino?

You can actually use any prep product available to you in HK. Since most contain oils and fillers just wash vehicle with some Z7 or wipe down with a 50/50 isopropyl alcohol solution prior to applying the zaino protectant.

I have actually used NXT as a paint cleanser to remove very minor surface imprefections with a PC and polishing pad. Works great. Washed with Z7 and applied Zaino. So case in point that if your surface marring is minor, you already have everything you need. :xyxthumbs

Hi blkZ28Conv,

I am so glad that you are here.

What other off the shelve product do you recommend to remove light swirl? Somethng stronger then colorX and NXT and work with Zaino? (preferable in Meguiars consumer line since it is easier to get here)

Greatly appreacited you help!!!

No problem Stephen,

Do you have access to Meg's "Deep Crystal System Polish" in HK?. Works pretty good for minor paint blemishes. I would still follow-up with NXT as a "cleanser" and "gloss" enhancer, wash or wipe down and than apply Zaino.

Do you work by hand or PC? What color is your vehicle?

Hi blkZ28Conv,

Yes....I can get the "Deep Crystal System Polish" here.:bounce

I just bought a 99' Black Acura TL (sold my BMW) and it has some swirl marks. It is parked in public car park and can't access to electric socket so a PC is out of the question.

Just few more questions:

1. After the Deep Crystal Polish, can I dawn wash and apply Zaino right after?

2. Would using ColorX/NXT in between help?

Thanks again for all the information. I enjoyed reading and really learn a lot on detailing from many of your post.

Stephen,

I do not believe it is possible to achieve maximum gloss and micro marring removal by just using DCP. You might want to follow with NXT or ColorX (I have never used ColorX so I am not sure of its abrasiveness) to see if the final gloss can be improved. Be careful of filler/oil activity when polishing with DCP. This can sometimes fool you into believing that the surface is mar-free when in reality the marring is just hidden. Do a complete test section with the products you have for the prep. See if the DCP-NXT and/or ColorX will produce the surface that you want to protect with Zaino. If satisfied, complete vehicle using a spray bottle with 50/50 IPA and check each completed section. Try not to re-introduce marring when performing this IPA wipe down. Z6 surface and apply Z5 than Z2. No need to wash if IPA wipe down is part of prep.

Black takes patience and also the realization that perfection is almost impossible with a daily driver of this color. You can get really close, just be patience.
