Zaino on a black Trans Am *pics*

My neighbor has been buggin me to "help him" detail his black 2001 T/A (read: use my tools and products and help me with the work) so I thought it would be a good opportunity to show him how to detail correctly.

First, we did a two-bucket wash with new chenille mitts using NXT shampoo. I cleaned the wheels and tires with EFHI and the shampoo. We dried with a CWB and a WW towel.

Next step was claying, which he'd never heard of. We used the new Sonus Pefect Paint Finish Kit (thanks David!!). He learned this step quickly (everyone does) and we finished claying in about 20 mins.

The car had a good amount of light swirls and scratches but nothing horrible so I broke out the DW849, a Megs polishing pad, and the 1ZPP. I started on the car while he followed me with the PC, another Megs polishing pad, and Megs SFP. He's used my PC before and he's good with power tools so he did a real good job with the SFP.

After an alky/water wipedown, we went to Zaino Z2. He had never heard of or seen anything like Zaino, especially something like ZFX and having to mix up product before use. We used two new Zaino apps (my fave!!), a little Z6 here and there, and went to work. Two coats used up about 1 ounce of product. After a Z6 wipedown, some Z16 on the tires, I broke out the camera and took these pics. Enjoy!

looking good... im just curious, but that does wiping down the car with alky/water do? clean off the oils from the polishes and prep for wax?

Si. It will get rid of previous waxes. When you use a sealant without a polish (like Zaino) you have to get rid of the old wax remains somehow. DI + Iso seems to be the choice of a dawn wash.

Nice job, both on the car and the teaching. Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll eat for a lifetime.

I'm sure it was an eye opening experience for your neighbor.

Thank you for all the nice compliments, everyone. I appreciate them :up

What kinda exhaust is that?

It's a Flowmaster. His buddy gave it to him (can't recall what he has). This car has been Hypertech'd and had a few other little mods done. It has 55K on it and has had some repainted area but it's plenty fast!

Looks really good! Would you say that after using the proper polishing techniques that the alky/water wipedown is adequate instead of a Dawn wash? Appearance-wise, it seems to work well because even though the paint is very reflective, it is also still very black looking.
