zaino and numerous layers

comment regarding the 75 layers assertion.

I'm a Zaino guy, and earlier this year I was putting about 4-5 layers on my motorcycle per week. I figured I had applied some ridiculous number.

Anyway, I had queried Sal Z on another issue and he suggested via e-mail that I call him. When I mentioned above practice, he indicated that there is a limit to the number of layers that will bond, and its about a dozen or so.

.... must resist the temption to post .... must hold back.....gotta hang on....must not join thread on Zaino layers .....I can do this .....arrrrggg

This should start the ball rolling again... You may want to seek cover...

I got up to 1467 layers of Z2 until the weight was too much and the hood collapsed into my motor, causing a catastrophic explosion, and annhilating the entire car.

That number is actually more like 3-6. It's the Law of Diminishing Returns.

The law that you referred to only applies to "visual" differences beyond a peculiar numbers of applications, not the bonding/crosslinking capacity of the polish itself.

It's pretty interesting that he wanted to speak over the phone concerning this. My guess is he didn't want an email floating around various forums with him stating that Zaino does not bond after a certain number of layers.

The beauty of Zaino Bros. is the fact that you can talk to the formulators of their polishes mano-to-mano. No PR or customer service rep, but the Man himself. To me that's pretty cool. Similiar to seeing the Doctor rather than the Nurse on a MD visit.

As a matter of record Zaino has never recommended more than 8-10 coats. This layering mania is a user craze. Not a manufacturer's suggestion. Similiar to layering a carnuaba beyond 2 coats for enhanced appearance and protection. Ain't going to happen even with pure natural "white" virgin carnauba. ;)

Some products are just fun to apply. A weekly Souveran, P21S, or Zaino would not hurt anything, will rejuveniate the finish for a daily driven vehicle, and fill that need to care for one's vehicle.

I believe it works similarly in both circumstances.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. This is an attempt to give a CPR to a dying duck. This will be my last post on the Z**** thing:scared

Yep! Only Id*ots don't see it. Unfortunately, there are id*ots out there.

I am new to the Zaino....I use the Klasse products. What are the differences...pros and cons of the Zaino products? I hear a lot about people using it, just wondering the benefits and down-falls.

Thanks..

In the past, before ZFX was available, Sal used to recommend applying Z-1 after every 5-6 coats, then continuing on with your layering of Z-2 or Z-5. And you used to have to wait at least 24 hours after buffing before applying the next coat.

With ZFX the waiting time for Z-2 or Z-5 to haze has been cut down to 20 minutes or so, depending on the temp and humidity in your area. You can now apply 2-3 coats in one day and Sal has stated, and it's on Zaino's website, not to apply more than 3 coats in a 24 hour period.

Zaino is an excellent product, as is Klasse, P21S, Pinnacle Souveran, and many other products out there. It comes down to your personal preference, how well you prep your paint, and which product comes closest to the look/shine you are trying to achieve.

:wavey :D

Hey guys,

What’s wrong here? You guys are forgetting DAWN…...Sal Zaino’s most favorite car soap /wax remover………….

:nixweiss

Scott P - That guy must be a real super smooooooth saleman.

No better than Scott at selling his Clearkote products.

Edit: Oh wait, you don't see Sal or any other Zaino salesmen on these boards. Why? He doesn't need trolls selling his products, they sell themselves. So you tell me who is a better salesmen, someone who has lots of product reps that push rave reviews on products they sell, or someone who knows the product firsthand that would talk to you on the phone about it and your questions.

Sal doesn't recommend applying all these layers, it is the owners of the cars who enjoy doing so who do this. Don't make Sal to be a bad guy because I will guarantee you will not find better service than Sal and his products. BTW: You don't have to use Dawn, its a recommendation for the masses who don't have the desire to be anal car owners, but who simply want the best protection they can buy. Also, what damage has dawn done to your car? And don't give the Meguiars answer "Dawn is not working forward in the paint process."
