Zaino and Carnuba?!

Who has layered a good carnuba wax over their Zaino and what were your results any pros or cons? How does it affect the way Zaino repels dust and makes it easy to come off? And most importantly how did it look pics are appreciated. Thanks :p

i did it but idont have any pics, it came out with a wet look in stead of a plasticy look, but i liked the way it looked. ididnt notice any repelling of dust in any way, but it did get dusty, try it and see

I found they canceled each others benefits :

Zaino's reflectivity was muted and

carnauba's warmth looked plasticky.

But that's my findings. Used a few diff carnaubs.

I've detailed a few customer cars with this combo and was non-plussed with what I saw. It looked like pretty much every other "wax-as-the-final-step" detail I've ever done. I tried it with Pinnacle Souveran (oily based glow) and S100 (more reflective).

I know I've said this before but I think topping Zaino with a wax eliminates most of its benefits. If you want to top a sealant, use Klasse instead or NuFinish or something else. They're cheaper and the visual effect is about the same.

I've topped Zaino with S100 on red, and I noticed a VERY slight darkening, but it's nothing too special. In about 2 weeks, I'll get to try NXT and S100. I'll be able to compare it better then.

I suspect that Zaino, being a polymer, would have the same sort of solvents that are used to make carnauba wax soft enough to apply. Because of this the solvents in the wax would degrade the finish obtained by applying the Zaino.

Klasse, on the other hand is an acrylic which does not use those solvents. This is why a coat of wax will improve the Klasse finish.

acrylic = a form of polymer :)

Zaino has very very little petro solvents in it. By comparison Klasse AIO is jam packed with it. AIO derives most of its cleaning power from chemical (PD) action.

Zaino is a very sophisticated and modern sealant product. AIO is very old skool technology. We're talking the diffs between a 21st century product and something from the 70's.

Klasse SG would be OK, but have you seen how strong the solvents/cleaners are in NuFinish??? That stuff will dissolve some pretty serious tar so I don't think most sealants stand much of a chance.

The point of my comment was that any sealant will be a good base for wax topping. No need to spend the $$ for Zaino when something cheap will do the job.

I agree that cost doesn't always = quality. But you DO need to keep the products somewhat "in order." You just threw me by mentioning NuFinish as a last step. I would classify NuFinish in the 'heavy/medium cleaner' area

As an over-simplified example:

heavy cleaner--->medium cleaner--->light cleaner--->polish/glaze--->sealant

He said NuFinish before the final "wax topper."

I don't think NuFinish is a whole lot more aggressive than Klasse AIO. It may have more mechanical cleaning power but both products are pretty close in terms of their chemical cleaning ability. AIO may be milder but not by much IMO. I certainly do not consider NuFinish a heavy or medium cleaner, though.

But back on topic, the original post related to using a sealant (Zaino) as a base for a carnauba. My opinion is if you're going to go that way, why buy Zaino and waste 2/3 of its benefits by applying a carnauba on top of it? Save some money and just use NuFinish. Then end result will be about the same and your wallet will thank you.

BRETFRAZ or BW,

You guys seem to be very knowlegeble on here with sealents. I was wandering what you guys think of the UPP as a sealent?

I was thinking of going with UPC and UPP because my paint isnt great so I was thinking maybe something like this would be better than Zaino since it needs to be optically perfect to get good results
