Z2 x 5 on a Z4

The deals on '03 Z4's have been amazing with the '04's about to hit the lots so I bought this car a couple of weeks ago. Only problem was that it had been on the lot, under a tree for about 3 weeks.

The paint had that horrible sandpaper feel to it and the clear coat stains were everywhere.

This photo represents about two days worth of paint revival:



Dawn wash>Clay>Dawn wash>MIP with CMA yellow pad>MIP with CMA white pad>MFP with CMA white pad>Dawn wash>Z1>Z2>Z6>Z2>Z6>Z2>Z6>Z2>Z6>Z2>Z6.....whew!



The nicest thing about this forum..other than the members, is gaining the knowledge required to be able to look at a horribly abused finish and know, without any hesitations, that you can bring it back to life and make it good as or even better than new!



When I first brought the car home, my wife looked at the finish and was like "oh my God....this is a new car?! I can't believe you would buy a car with this much crap in the finish as picky as you are!"

I just kind of smiled knowingly and said..."wait and check it out this coming Sunday evening....you won't recognize it"

Why did you use the MIP with a white pad before the Z.

I thought you want to use MFP ( final polish) as the the final prep before using the wax of your choice.

How easy or hard was it working with the MFP?

I'm thinking of using it before applying Z and Klasse as it has no fillers.

The MFP is a breeze to use. Really it's the easiest I have found. Highly recommended.

How well did you work the MIP in and did you wipe off with dry, wet MF etc?

Did you clean the paint at all before applying the Z after the MFP?

I work all polishes until they have broken down thoroughly. I judge this by wiping my finger across the area being polished. If the compound is completely dry and wipes right off I figue it's done. Maybe someone else can chime in with a more scientific aproach?!

I use a 50/50 water/rubbing alcohol spray on an MF to remove polish and then just to be on the safe side I Dawn wash'd one final time before starting the Zaino process.

It's oversights like that which explain why I'm still listed as an "Apprentice" on this board!!!:(

Now I'll have to leave it out in harsh environ's for the next few months... take pictures... and then start over! RATS!:)
 
I was wondering what the life expectancy is of GEPC. I found a good price for the 5 liter jug and was wondering how long it will last.

GEPC is more of a polish/glaze, not a wax or sealant. Therefore longevity or protection is minimal. 5 liters is a lot, make sure you really like it.

HilfigerCelica, I think the deals have gotten even sweeter over the past 2 weeks since I bought mine, but dealer inventory has gotten very low so the selection is pretty grim. I just kind of lucked out that they had one left exactly as I would have ordered it minus the heated seats... which would have been nice in a rag top. I bought it from a dealership that I have purchased a few other cars from so they just immediately gave me $5900.00 off the MSRP which was just over $45k. No haggling required...which was kind of nice for a change... although I am kind of addicted to the art of the negotiation!
