Z10 vs. Sonus Leather Conditioner

I have been using Sonus leather Conditioner for about 4 months now. I really like this stuff. It makes the leather really soft and brings back that new car/leather scent. I decided to order Z10 to see what all the fuzz is about and I tried it today. It has a very strong scent, but I did not find it very pleasant, and IMO, it does not come anywhere close to the new leather scent; instead, it smells a lot like the auto air freshener spray by Auto Expression ("new car" scent), which is not very pleasant. In addition, Z10 left the leather looking and feeling a bit more dry than when I use Sonus, which IMO, adds more moisture. I will be wiping my seats tomorrow and reapplying Sonus. On Sunday I will be trying Z8 on top of Ultima PGP. I will post the pics, I am expecting some amazing results, as my car already looks great with the Ultima PGP.

I love that entire line of products (the wash is good, but Ultima's is much better). Sonus paint cleaner, polishers and swirl removers are amazing and so are their interior detailing products. Their waffle weave drying towel, polishing towels, and buffing towels are incredible.

Did you use z9 or another cleaner prior to applying? I like both sonus and zaino's leather treatments, but like paint you have to prep the surface. If you're looking for smell when you make your decision on how good or bad a leather conditioner is you're not looking in the right direction.

I only wiped it down with a damp Sonus Ultimate Detailing Towel, as I had cleaned the leather with Sonus Leather Cleaner just a couple of days ago. Yes, I wanted to try it only because of the scent, which I have read is "the best." I am definitely staying with Sonus. I think that it does a much better job and it really does bring back that new car/leather scent. I found the scent of Z10 to be too overpowering (but only initially as it did not last very long) and too artificial (as opposed to a natural leather scent).

Well stay away from leatherique, leathermaster and connelly hide treatment then (what i consider the best leather care in the business) because your nose will not recognize the scent of those fabulous world renowned products.

No question that Leatherique is a superb product (not familiar with Leathermaster though I have heard of it). However, leatherique is a restoration product really meant to restore old worn-out leather, so for new leather it would be overkill IMO. Surely when the leather starts getting old, I will go with Leatherique, but for now for protecting and maintaining my new leather Sonus will do.

I do not wish to involve myself in an argument, but leatheriques oils are wonderful to both old and new leather, after initial application follow suit. same goes for the other products i mentioned. Sonus leather conditioner is a great product, not because of scent.

Pristine Clean from Leatherique sounds like what you want for regular maintenance.

It's all good, I did not take it as an argument, just an exchange of opinions and ideas regarding detailing products.:2thumbs:

I didn't care for the Zaino Z10 conditioner either. I felt the conditioning properties didn't last very long and the smell off. I'm using the new revised Optimum Protect Plus (OPP). OPP lasts about 2-3 weeks and it smells like real leather.

Sonus emulates the smell of Porsche leather. After a little Sonus my car smells like it just came out of the showroom

Right now i have both lines of conditioners and cleaners (sonus and zaino). I tried zaino on an old cadilac and for my amazement the leather (i think it might have ben pleather or something) cleaned very(!) well. I am not sure but it seemed to do the job for me. For some reason i didnt really like the sonus line though. I think it was doing something wrong because it seemed no dirt was being removed. I have an old '77 911 with real Sh!tty leather so i might try some leatherique to bring it back. Would leatherique or leathermaster be my best bet to do this?

Don't forget that for old neglected leather Lexol does a good job of softening. It doesn't smell great so I apply Z10 over it.

Leatherique is probably a better choice for restoring old worn out leather, but you have to follow the instructions very closely.

Yes it does! Found the exact thing!! It seems to bring the natural tanning smell back out. It also makes the leather feel a bit less soft, in fact, it keeps you from sliding in the seat. Kind of a wierd "grip" feeling as the Porsche leather was from the start. It takes away "but-shine" on the leather!!

As much as I love Z-10, it's not close to new Porsche leather smell, BUT, it is DEAD-ON for Lexus leather! When I had my SC430, you could not tell between a new SC430 and my car.

As for Connely Hide Food, do not use that on todays coated leather, it's really for UN-treated leather where it works very well.

Coated leather has to treated like a paint finish clearcoat, you don't want heavy oils laying on it, you just want to bring it back to the way it was when new.

Uncoated leather such as old MG or Austin Healy the Hide Food, or Leatherique can bring it back from the dry condition and the great thing about Letherique, they have dyes that are dead-on for some of those leathers. I did one a long time ago and you'd think I recovered them it came out so well. Took away all the crack/grainy look with the dye and both the oil and cleaner made it look like new. I wish I had a picture of these before and after as it would show how well that product works on those leather covers.

I still use Woolite to clean my Porsche and after 24hrs, I treat it with the Sonus. Works well for me that's for sure!:2thumbs:

Hmm! That's exactly why I thought to try the Z10 because someone else had said that it was dead on the Lexus leather, but I did not find it to be the case with mine. Maybe the newer model Lexus has a different scent. What year was your SC430? Do you know if Lexus leather is coated or uncoated? Can Leatherique be used on uncoated leather?

Year=2003

Leather=Coated

No, I'd choose not to use Leatherique on coated leathers. These are tanned differently and then coated, just like your clearcoat to protect the leather finish.

Maybe Sal changed the formula.:confused: Could be.
