Z bonding to.....

Iâ€â„¢m thinking about using Scratch X and Medallion or maybe SSR2.5 or 1ZPP (choices, choices) to get rid of cobwebs and water spots in preparation for Z5 and Z2 layers, then topping with #16 or P21S or Sovereign. Will the Z bond ok after the initial prep, or do I need to, I hate to say it, Dawn wash or will Z wash be fine if washing is needed? Will those Last Stage Products have any detrimental effects on the Z? I have 4 coats of Z on now (1/4oz per coat on Ext. Cab Silverado including wheels, door jams, rocker panels, around the inside of the hood and bumpers.) and the other day I was going down the Hwy and a rock about the size of your thumb flew up and I watched it arch toward my bonnet and BAM! Hit the hood and then bounced into the windshield, OOOO MAAAN! But not a scratch, thank goodness. I like to think the Z had something to do with it not being chipped? I was going to apply the products with MF applicators and buff off with the turtle wax MF towels you get at Auto Zone that Scottwax was talking about in another thread. Let the feedback (release the hounds) begin.

Not sure on the others but SSR leaves nothing behind so Z will bond just fine. In fact I would say your paint will be much cleaner than a dawn wash as the SSR will be removing a lot more than any detergent could. (I would also mix in a claying there too).

You can also go straight over the 1zPP with Zaino also...no washing needed

If im not mistaken the 1Z line has lots of oils and fillers that would not make it a good candidate for Zaino bonding...I used the 1Z polishes but always used a carnuaba for LSP not Zaino.

I, too, think that 1Z contains oil and wax, so I would wipe the car down with alcohol/water (50/50) after polishing.

Or, you could wash with Z7. Since the car is clean by this point, it's pretty fast. Probably a lot faster than wiping the car down with alcohol/water.

I must agree as well. You will need to apply a product like AIO before you apply any Z.

I think that AIO would clean up anything left behind from 1Z PP, like micro marring and any oils or fillers.

Actually, we may all agree...

After polishing a section, I wipe off the residue with a 50/50 mix of Iso Prop + water before moving to the next panel section. Then I wash with Z7 after the whole thing is done.

So, do we all agree?!? :D

Regards,

Dan.

1. Wash, 2. clay... make sure to wipe all the clay lube residue away before it dries (this prevents having to wash again.), 3. Polish (make sure the polish you have doesnt use fillers and isnt oily....Poorboys SSR's and Menzerna are 2 good polishes for this). Spray Z6 to clean any left over polish and dust 4. Add Zaino (prolly at least three layers) 5. Then Top with fav carnuaba a day or so later.
