I have a customer who owns his own commercial real estate business and because of it does a lot of traveling from Cleveland to Cincinnati once a week or so and his car of choice is a 2007 Corvette. Basically the car was trashed, and he's very particular about how it looks when I come out and do it. He doesn't let anyone else touch it except for a touchless car wash. Yesterday myself and my buddy Josh went out to take car of the vette and his Avalanche. Josh took care of the inside and I took on the outside. Sorry, my ******* forgot my batteries for my camera and I didn't get any pics.

Anyway, he came home driving his new baby, 1964 cherry red corvette with white leather interior (BEAUTIFUL!), which I'll be doing the works on before he stores it for winter. Finished up on the 07 and the avalanche and had a drink with the owner and when I quoted him the price for cleaning up the vette and the avalanche he never batted an eye and even threw me a $40 tip.

Very down to earth customer, has money and knows what it's like to be 23 and trying to work my way through college. Anyway, I rambled on about all that to say that these are the kind of customers that make this worth it. He walked around the cars and was like wow, you do great work. Customer appreciation makes this business worth it.

Anyone have any customers like this?

A good customer of mine (now a good friend) always treats me right and tips me well. He takes me out to eat at high-end restaurants, and knows and appreciates the work I put into his cars.

Please post an update on how the 64 vette turned out. I've got a riverside red 64 that has an orange tint when in sunlight. I'm trying to find the right wax that will tone down the orange and bring out more of the red.

thanks,

exactly. not someone who would just hand you the money, send you on your way and not give a damn about your well being...

I have a client that is always a sure thing, every 2 weeks he wants a call to set up his next appointment. He owns an appliance repair business. Every 2 weeks I go to his house and detail his 02 F350 dually (work truck), and his 04 Navigator. His vehicles are always nasty so I have to obviously charge him for the work I do on them. He never cares what it costs. Every time I do his cars and give him the price he says "it costs what it costs." That truly shows me that he appreciates my work and sees the value in the service I provide. Almost everytime Im over he invites me to stay for dinner with his family. Thats the type of client I like and appreciate!

I enjoy clients who appreciate your work and stay in contact with you. Recently I did a car with a friend and we charged $375 and he gave us $125 in tips because he saw us busting our asses trying to finish the car in time :)

Also had another who I taught for fun and hes very good friends with me now. Pretty chill guy, he tried to buy me the entire Taco Bell menu when I decided to get lunch there lol

Lambster,

I have a couple of those customers and I'm sure will get plenty more...this one guy keeps giving myname to soo many people, everytime hes tells someone about me, he calls to tell me...which is great! His most recent referral was here: Marshall Goldman Motor Sales & Leasing Inc. This is where he purchased his car from, I dont plan on getting much business from them, but it sure would be nice!

Lambster, your in my area, I'm sure youve heard of them right?

I love the customers that spread my name around like I'm the best thing since sliced bread. I have this one guy (Good ol' Bob) The guy just can't tell enough people. I did his lincoln Mark VIII and then his Cadillac DTS and I swear I've gotten at least a dozen other customers from this guy. people always calling in "Yea Bob showed me his car and I couldn't beleive how soon can I can in?" I just love customers like that. A real show of support.

Haha, I actually got hired to be their head detailer but they didn't want to pay me what I was worth. This was 5 years ago though. I had no interest in making $13/hr to bust my *** for them.

Nice, but definatly not worth it at that price...

I have a couple of clients like this. They really know how to show their appreciation for the work we do. I don't know if they have studied the trade or what. But they know how a vehicle is supposed to look, and like what we do.

One of my clients has old Chargers. All I do is wash and wax. Occassional clay. These are show cars. Not daily drivers.

I'm glad to be of service.

My favorite customers are the ones that come in with a Porsche, or Mercedes and they're trying to save money on their detail. They want a full detail for $200, and I can't do that so they go somewhere else. About a week later they're back for me to remove swirl marks, and get the tire dressing off the dash board. I couldn't even count how many details we've had to fix.

I always tell customers, if they are trying to save money and have someone else do a budget job, then for me to fix their mistakes it's going to cost even more than the original price.

You get what you pay for.

I tell people the same thing. One of the local shops does a "complete detail" for $129.99. People call me asking for the same thing and I tell them if they'd like their paint defects covered up I'll match the price or if they'd like their carpets dyed before even attempting to clean them I'll match that as well.

BTW, the shop I'm referring to offered me a job and the guy told me he had a 1 step product that would eliminate swirls and scratches and seal the paint. Guy was freaking nuts and I walked out on him and told him I'm sure I'd be seeing his customers when the fillers got washed off the car.

Whenever I hire anybody to do anything for me, I try to make sure and offer food/drink. No better worker than one who thinks you care enough to eat with them, and no worse worker than one who is hungry.
