So about 5yrs ago i made a post saying I'm opening soon and need advice and you guys really tore me a new one. To better understand I'll post the link below. Before you read it though you have to understand I am dyslexic but i didn't know it at the time.

contrary to what you thought, business turned out really good.

In the future, you "pros" should do a better job of encouraging people and keeping the negativity to yourself. How about next time skip over a post instead of putting a person down. Thanks to everyone who gave good advice, it played a huge role in the success of my company!

I usually don't bite on these but here it goes...

With time you will get to know these guys on the forum, and they will be more than willing to offer their advice, expertise and opinions more often than not, however asking the right questions is the first step. I read through the first page of the linked thread and did not see anything that should be viewed as offensive, or negative. You started the thread with an incredibly general question about basic advice on running a detailing company, and then move right into who makes the best buffer. Now both of those questions are completely valid, however we just need a little more to go on before we can offer the correct advice. There might be someone who responds giving you plenty of tips on how to run a Brick and Mortar detailing shop to peak efficiency, however if your mobile that is no help to you. Also no location was provided as to where you were opening, what type of customers are in your market, has any advertising been done yet, how long have you been detailing, are you mobile or operating out of a house or commercial location? All of those things would help us narrow down exactly the type of help and direction you need, instead of throwing darts at a wall and hoping one of them hits the mark.

Once we have a solid background of how and where you operate in addition to your level of experience we can better advise you on which products would suit you best.

I am very happy to hear that everything worked out in the end for you, I myself am taking that leap this spring. Best of luck on continued success!

Glad your business turned out well, and it's always nice to do something that people tell you that you can't do... but you should heed your own advice in regards to how to treat other people; nobody in there was that out of line in asking you to just do the legwork on your own then you started telling people they were stupid. Also, five years is a lifetime in "internet time". I'm sure a lot of those people have long forgotten it by now and it really speaks volumes that you had to come back and give everyone the "I told you so" speech.

The guys around Autopia and most detailing forums are extremely helpful when you ask real questions and not just "Tell me everything!" because that's not how it works. I've only seen one or two bad apples on these forums, so that judgement is misplaced IMO

This is the kindest board I've ever been apart of, I'd hate to see what you think of say the bimmer forums...

I read through the advice you were given and I am not sure what you are complaining about. You got some good advice. You got hit on your grammar, and rightfully so. Being professional means professional in every way, including your website (if you have one). I'm glad your business is going well. Welcome back to Autopia and I hope you will share your knowledge with the newbies starting businesses here.

I read through the thread you linked and didn't feel it was too harsh. There is a saying that says, "you should learn to walk before you run". Based on that thread it sounded as if you wanted to just start off running without first learning to walk. While some comments may have seemed harsh at the time, I'm sure they were tying to help you from making the mistakes so many other people do and end up failing in the end.

Glad things worked out for you though and welcome back.

This is Wrapt C5Z06. :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

Believe it or not, I remember that thread.

2 things:

1- now you are one of those guys who can say you proved the doubters wrong
And
2- I wish I hadn't come off so harsh. However, you have to understand a lot of people don't want to put in the effort and want others to do the work for them. You obviously proved me wrong.

Congrats!

I refuse to comment negatively, my therapist says I need to try to lift up the emotionally frail with words of encouragement.

I missed this thread a month ago. I followed the link and read through the first page. I thought the thread was civil and comments worthy of consideration until I got to the 22st post. Guess who made it. I'm glad things worked out well for you. I love a success story. Just out of curiousity, do you have a website?

I agree with the O.P. My car developed a few swirls after posting and people from Autopia came to my house and beat me up. Now my mail is disappearing and I'm a victim of identity fraud...

What wax will make this go away???

Wasn't really a part of it... But from all I read, it seems like you got what you asked for. I wouldn't say anyone gave you a hard time, and you got a ton of good advice. Let me ask you this. Looking back, reading your own posts now that you have established a successful business, do you see the point of view of those who posted back then? Did you not make adjustments to your approach to starting the business based off of what was said by those who said you would fail? Let's be honest here, MOST people who just blindly go into something like starting a business are going to fail. There aren't many people out there who can travel the bumpy road to success. So the likelihood based off the information that was given, was that you would fail. The path to success is anything but a straight line, and nobody travels the same road. Congratulations on finding your way.

im sure you are very proud of yourself, but it's quite immature to come in here and be all smug about it and try to throw it in the face of those who helped you (weather you believe that or not).
