You guys are gonna flame me but...

Today I was watching this dude pamper his car (a deep maroon Renault Megane II RXT Sedan) while detailing my wife' s new car' s (the jet black Hyundai Getz) interior.

He washed his car. He shampooed and then rinsed it. When it came to drying, he pulled a bottle of something out of his trunk and started spraying and wiping down to dry.

I was curious  as to what he was using. I approached him and asked him what that spray was. He showed the bottle and it was "Turtle Wax Wax It Wet" ... I do not honor Turtle Wax at all but his car gleemed after using that stuff !

I asked him if I could try a couple of spritzes and he said I could. So I stopped detailing the interior and washed wife' s Getz. After rinsing I shook the bottle well and then startied spraying and wiping. The spray pushed the water away and added a true brilliance. It lacked the deep shine but the shine was strong despite being shallow. As usual with MY LUCK, it started raining like 2 hours after I was finished with the car. I rushed to get the car into the closed area of the apartment lot to see that the body did not hold water at all... The stuff smelled like that of paraffin. I guess it is some sort of that stuff.

I am a bit worried :nervous: since it smelled too much of paraffin so I will never use it again.

I just wanted to let you guys know the interesting experiment.

Flame for what? Use what works, whether it's expensive or not. If you get good results from Turtle Wax products, more power to ya!

It's pretty much the same as Wax-As-U-Dry by Eagle One...

I actually like WAUD. It leaves a nice shiney, slick, streak free surface that beads water (for a short time).

My cars get Zaino, so I generally don't use WAUD, but on customer cars that want a "Wash Only", I use WAUD, and they are always very pleased....

Good find! :p

Hey thanks... I was a bit worried after I used it since I do not trust OTC stuff like Armor All and Turtle Wax.

On the other hand, I have a buddy who uses the "Platinum Series" (green bottles) and he is real pleased with his results.

I prefer Sonax and Arexxons all the time, with Rex in between. (German as well as Sonax)

Arexxons is endorsed by Ferrari as the official product for showrooms and Sonax is endorsed by Porsche as I far as I follow. Both give outstanding results and even His Higness Lord David Bynon honored Sonax. That is when I decided to permanently stick to it.

Klasse, Mothers, Poor Boy are very very rare here in Turkiye. Meguiar' s is abundant but quite expensive. However I cannot give up with the Quik Detailer, unigrit sanding block and the clay bar. I LOVE them...

3M products are at a pro level with very (too) big packages. I would guess I would have to use one can of Swirl Remover for about 10 years ! Fİnesse It is what I use frequently and one package lasts for like 1 1/2 years... (David taught me to use products very very sparingly; actually act like a cheapskate miser when using them. Not only do I save lots of product and work, the result is always fantastic too !)

The most I use is the Meguair's Quik Detailer. I use up a bottle within like a month or 40 days...

Istanbul is a seashore city and we have these seagulls as big as vultures !! They love to poop on cars instead of te sea. Well they take revenge of us humans polluting their habitat; the sea, I guess... One needs to wash the bird bombs almost every day. Also we have the chronic problem of Sahara dust raining with every southerly wind. In severe cases you think as though blood rained on the cars... (could be the reason behind ancient myths about blood rains)

So keeping a car clean and freshly detailed is an everyday task. For example I wash my family' s vehicles (my classic "Garage Queen", my MPV and wife' s baby) at least every other day. This makes the QD my lifeblood ! In the summer we have the same Sahara dust (very fine sand actually) not in rain but in dry form. It is just like the "dust bowl" of the 30' s back in the States... You get an approximately 1/5 inch dust layer every day on your car unless you take constant care... Real tough...

Well, if you live at some place called "Desoloute" in Arizona or New Mexico you will understand what it feels like in a (hold on tight) 16-million-populated megapolis !!! Well, God' s will; what can you do to help it ??

Sorry for the long one. Hope I did not bore you guys out of your wits ! :D

Don't turn your nose up at OTC products, many of them are very good. Armor All was reformulated years back and is now an excellent product. Turtle Wax's Leather Cleaner/Conditioner (spray version) is also an excellent product.

The product inside the bottle does not know the name on the outside. :)

Didn't bore me at all. I enjoy hearing about the ups and downs of all Autopians. You have the dust and the gull bombs, I have rotten winters. We all have our crosses to bear.

I do think I would go crazy if I had the limied product availability that you face. My hat is off to you!

BTW, since you mention your frequent washings, is water availability a problem there?

Not at all; as long as you do not have phosphate and pollutants in your shampoos / soaps, pay your "refuse water drainage" fee there is no problem. In fact almost every batch of land has its own "artesian well" in addition to the water supply...

The only thing I would flame you for is the fact that you dont know its best to use a QD'er when drying?

I use Sonus Carnauba Spritz every time I dry...

I always thought using a QD when drying would be a waste of product... :o

Well, where I live we have some pretty hard water and when its hot, the water can leave spots before you get a chance to put a towel to it. Using a QD'er fixes that. But even when its cold I still use a QD'er. One with carnauba gives a great shine then just toweling off...

Gonna follow your advice. Thanks... :2thumbs:

Just because you can buy a product locally does not mean its inferior to boutique stuff. Turtle Wax Ultra Platinum is a great OTC product.
