yes, another ?. What to use to remove old wax on plastic.

zannard

If I only had more time.
A friend has a Honda Element and has old polish or wax on the plastic door handles and on the tailgate. I tried APC, simple green, and #39. Even tried one of those soft bristled detailing brushes. Still no luck.

Plastic sucks! Any suggestions?

thanks

You could try Mr. Clean Magic Eraser--but proceed with caution. It's basically an abrasive foam brick (this was discussed previously and I think that this was the general consensus) that will clean just about anything off of anything. It's really an excellent product, provided you know what you're doing. I've used it successfully on trim before--with great results too--but it could easily strip a layer of plastic and make you long for a polish stain instead. It will damage your paint without hesitation, so be very careful to not let it touch anything you don't want exfoliated. Go gently.

I actually used it today on a '93 integra i just bought -- the previous owner did one too many terrible waxing jobs and the trim was riddled with wax smears. The Magic Eraser took care of that wonderfully, and once I followed it up with PB's Trim Restorer, it looked like new.

Try the old home remedy....baking soda on a damp toothbrush and gently scrub in tiny circles. Rinse, dry and you may have to do again. It's worth a try as not to ruin anything.

Poorboys Trim Restorer removed all the wax from the plastics on my xTerra (lots of plastic there too). 1 week after application I wiped down with PB S&W and sealed up with Klasse SG. Looks great now.

Mineral oil that you can get from any pharmacy or discount store will work. Put a few drops on a paper towel and rub it into the surface. Let it set for a minute or two and wipe off. Then apply your usual trim dressing.

I have found that PB TR to be about the best that I have seen it also protects at the same time. I use a tooth brush rub into the plastic and its gone. I then buff go back over with my favorite dressing rebuff and I'm done.

LOL Teh good ole Element. About two years ago I did my cousins Element using Peanut Butter. Came out really good.

I tried a lot of things but this seemed to actually do the trick.

The 2003 Nissan Xterra has almost every kind of trim there is. Some can be stained by wax some can't but I applied SG to all of it without staining.

I only applied the SG a week later to help lock in the restoration job of PB TR.
