Here is the same poll. I deleted the first one because I forgot to put "Detailing" income IN the first one. Sorry about that;)

I change the oil and AIO my daughter's car. I get a thank you daddy. Now, how much is that worth?

"Changing the oil in Daughter's car.... $15.00"

"Applying AIO to Daughter's car..... $2.00"

"Thank You Daddy....Priceless"

Sorry couldn't resist ;)

I actually was crunching numbers last night. I figured that I probably only make 6 or 7 thousand a year detailing. I'm not doing it full time and I can only do it really from May-October. May and October are kind of partial months too because it takes some time to get people going and then they slow down when the weather turns. I've got some medical problems that keep me from detailing when it gets too cold out and October is when I close up shop. April is still to mucky out and the weather won't stay good long enough to get any business. Anyway, for a good 3 solid months and two partial months I'd say that 6 or 7 grand is pretty good wages. Lots of it goes back into supplies and the rest is spent treating my honey like she should be treated. :)

I figure about 4-5 k just doing it in the summers, but a lot of that this year has gone back towards attorney, products, insurance, blah stuff.

I currently do 5-8 full details per week in my new (3/1/03) shop. I hope for $1300 per week in this embryonic stage.

So far, it is working. Should gross $75000, less about $20,000 in expenses. $55,000 in net income? I'm okay with that. Of course I have $15,000-20,000 in startup costs. So the first year net won't be great, but the plan is working, and I would project 2004 sales at $125,000, if I decide to take on a helper.

The business is out there!

It may of taken 3 decades to do it but we are a very profitable detailing shop. It's all about service, integrity, honesty and PASSION. Twenty years ago there was not even 4000 auto detailers in the phone book. Today there is over 14,000. Twenty years ago people thought detailing was pinstriping. This business has come a long way. I never got in this business for the money, I got in it because I loved cars, especially clean cars. I have certaintly made my mistakes in this business, but on the other hand I made good on all my promises. I have always given the customer more than they asked for. My business always stood apart from everyone elses. This business has been very good to me, but then again I have given it everything that I have. Staying power in any business is all about determination. Where there is a willl there is a way. Our GOAL IS CUSTOMERS FOR LIFE.
