Ya gotta like 3M Ultrafina

Cleaning Fool

Used today for the first time via rotary. Spread at 1,000, kicked it up to 1,800 with a black pad to bring some bling on my daughters Focus. I've had this sitting here for 6 months, why didn't I try this stuff sooner? I like it. Super easy to use, no hard rubbing with Fina. It gets an A in my book.

It's also great at hiding holograms that it creates. Make sure you do mulitple IPA wipedowns and look at it in the full sun after.

I've had zero issues with holograms using UF with their blue pad and following the directions exactly. I'm seeing cars now more than a year later after using UF and they still have no holograms.

Yea I've never had any issues with UF holograming. You really have to screw something up pretty bad to have UF hologram up there. I mean there's a reason there's a 45 minute training video on how to properly use it the correct way. but once you have that down (which really isn't hard at all in the first place) you should have zero issues with it.

Edited for respect.

This!

Most polishes can mask marring, it is usually from trying to do something the polish can't do. UF is meant to clean up after a SMR with a light cutting/polishing pad. I don't think it will clean up after an aggressive wool pad. As far as making trails of its own, I only did that once.

Follow the directions on the bottle, believe it or not. Oh, and don't let the pad you are using load up with stuff (long story). I did leave some very faint, almost impossible to spot trails on the drivers door of my truck. It was the last panel I polished, and I should have used a different pad. I kept going with the same pad I did the rest of the truck with, and it was loaded up with polish/dead paint/old lsp.

I did ipa wipe the truck before polishing, but didn't clay. The paint was still very smooth, and I really don't like to clay unless I am really going to do a correction type polishing.

It will probably take 20 min or so to clean up the door. It really isn't a huge priority right now, as you can't even see them in the sun unless you get everything lined up perfect.

Don't take my post as :argue because I don't mean it that way.

ehh.. No biggie. I'm sure there's lots of different factors that make the chemicals react differently. It's still by far and far a very supurb product. One of the very best on the market for what it does in my opinion. I have seen quite a few people use in a manner not intended for it's specific job and wonder why they can't get the results others do. But just like everything out there... It works for some and not for others.

UF has a very specific use, but when used as directed, it does an amazing job. It will remove LIGHT holograms, works very well following Meguiars #205 which only leaves faint buffer swirls on anything but the softest paint.

Also used it today on a black Civic. I wish more products were as easy to use.

It is almost idiot proof, I only really had that one  time. And to be honest I really did screw that up, not UF. :sadpace:

Oh well, live and learn. It is still my favorite finish polish.

LOL. I just watched that video, or at least I think it's the one you are taking about. In the beginning of the video they were interviewing workers from the body shop my father works at! :LOLOL

Yeah, and even on extremely soft clears, UF/rotary/no bite pad will finish out holo free and gorgeous.

Exactly and exactly: Definitely one of the best polishes out there, and definitely one that you need to use exactly as the directions say. Yeah, there's a lot of detailing products out there that often times you can get better results by finding your own way of using them, but this ain't one of them. Use *exactly* as directed for the best results.

Very cool. I've watched that video quite a few times.

Do you guys suggest this to be a rotary only final polish?

I've never tried it with a DA, but it is (arguably?) one of the very easiest polishes to use on a rotary. For what it does, I can't think of anything easier to use.

Well, I can't see paying $45+ for a quart and $15-18 for the pad to use with a DA buffer since that isn't the intended use. Not sure what you'd have to gain using it over a finishing polish like Optimum Finish via DA. Ultrafina has a very specific use and absolutely excels at it.

To add to what Scottwax has said. 3M suggest using a speed between 1400 and 2000rpm's....so I'm not sure a DA will produce the same resuts as a rotary. That's not to say it won't work though....give it a try.

I still don't get when we can't have the UK pads over here. :(

How does it respond to different pads versus the UF recommended blue pad? It seems like any variations might not work as well. Has anyone tried it with the LC pads?

Thanks,

Randy

I've used it with the red Lc classic pads and it seemed to work fine. I always try to use the 3M ones though. (they were dirty that day)
