Xtreme Vehicle Makeover - Ford Mustang GT Edition

Good Morning,

I had the pleasure of working on this black-on-black Mustang GT for a fellow Autopian (NickMach1). Nick follows the boards very closely and our constant conversation throughout the detail had strong regards to that. Nick is definately an enthusiast and has a nice array of products. More recently, Nick had given the rear 1/4 of this car a shot and didn't have great results, so he contacted me.

Belonging to his fiancee, Nick told me, via email, about the plethora of defects. I arrived at 8am and made quick work of the interior (nice shape!). I washed and clayed the exterior, and did the wheels/tires/wells, then took some pictures in the sun ( :soscared: ).

The finish was littered with swirls, deep water etching, haziness, mild oxidation, and various R.I.D.S. Knewing I had my work cut out for me, Nick volunteered his garage space :D. I was able to work the compound in for a LONG time and keep the finish cool. In the end, the results spoke for themselves. Nick and his fiancee were very happy with the ouctome :). My finals were:

-Dawn Wash

-Zaino Z18 Clay with Dawn Wash

-TOL Tire Cleaner cut 50/50 on tires/wells

-P21 Wheel Cleaner on wheels

-Hi Temp Extreme Cut/Optimum Car Polish (50/50) via rotary and LC Cutting Pad @ 1700 rpm

-Blackfire Finishing Polish/ CK RMG (80/20) via rotary and LC Finessing Pad @ 1400 rpm

-Zaino Z6 Wipedown

-Zaino Z5 Pro by hand

-Zaino Z16 on tires

-CD-2 Engine Detailer in wells

-CK RMG on plastic trim

Sean did a great job, Absolutley amazing I don't think the pictures even do it justice! He's inspired me to get more practicing with my Rotary. This guy knows his stuff and really has a love for detailing.....

Thanks again Sean,

Nick

Sean..that came out awesome..you did in fact bring that paint back ....that was swirl city...I commend you on your work...

I am sure he is happy now...the Gt looks 100% better ..thanks to you...

Great Job...

Al

By the way what kind of Camera is that, It captures things very well!! I'm suprised it even caught the level of defects that existed!

Looks great! I was wondering how the RMG does on the clear plastics? Also I have wanted to ask you, what tools/applicators do you use to clean the leather other than Z-9 and what do you use (tools) to dress the leather other than Z-10? Thanks, do you think spraying an aresol in the wells leads to residue on the rest of the car?

Andrew

Looks great!!

The swirls look awful in the pics--which means they were HORRIBLE in real life.

Can you imagine doing these jobs without EC? I thought about that the other day, before EC I would have to perform at least one more step via rotary--EC is such a huge time saver.

Nick: Thanks again for the business; I'm glad you are happy :).

I am using a Canon A610 camera. I just resize in photoshop and add a border. It's a great little camera for under $250.

Andrew: Nick is going to monitor RMG on the trim for me, so stay tuned. I just applied it, let dry, and wiped away. It made it look OEM with a touch of sheen.

I used a very light dilution of Dawn to clean the interior. I just put a little in a bucket and filled it. Saturate an MF, wring out, and wipe down.

I dressed the interior with Z10 and an MF applicator. Put a thick bead on the applicator, per panel, and massage in.

I put the CD-2 in the wells before my Z6 wipedown. This allows the Z6 to remove any residue.

Thomas: About 5.5-6 hours in/out.

Joe: It was pretty bad :). I am very happy to have EC, especially paired with Optimum. I think I'd still be there cleaning up the Powergloss dust if I didn't have it :D.

Thanks again!!!

Are you kidding me?

5.5-6 hours inside and out, and you got THOSE results.

I'm sitting here shaking my head.

You didn't need to write a word. The pics told the story on this one.

ebpcivicsi: I agree with you 100%. EC is a HUGE time saver. I'm glad that you guys found and shared it with the boards (or resurrected it from the dead)!!

LOL, I think Anthony O should receive the credit...he was using the HT levelers (including the 357) long before I bought my first qt a few years ago. He's the OG of HT. :D

I am just glad that Sean invented the OP mix--makes the product that much better!!

Scott: From grey to black :). You gotta love the B&As of black.

Mike: I gave the customer what they wanted. There was no "filler" fix for this one. You have to barrel down on many of these. Why do you ask?

John: Thanks :). I thought I was working slow :nixweiss.

Joe: OG of HT...lol!

The car is actually black now Scott.... It was amazing to watch the color change.

The RMG actually looks great on the trim, I can't explain the look as it's pretty unique. It's not extremely glossly, but not matte either.. It's somewhere in between and I'm very happy with it. I'd use it on any of my vehicles.

Are you using a tripod with your camera? How do you capture the top level of the cars (hoods, trunk, and roof) with the tripod, and still maintain a blurr-free pic.
