Xtreme Vehicle Makeover - 2002 Jeep Liberty Edition

You're probably laughing right now and saying, "There's no way a 2002 is an 'Xtreme' job", but lemme tell you, this vehicle had it all.

Second owners (I believe), the owner contacted me for "the works" minus an engine detail (no pics of interior). This vehicle kicked my tail and 5 1/2 hours later, it looked (as my other client stated) "like it rolled off the showroom floor".

The condition of the exterior was purely haggard. The contamination was abundant as proved by the constant kneading of my Meguiar's Overspray Claybar. Every single piece of plastic trim had wax on it and many pieces were sanded (?). All of the emblems were caked in white residue and it looked like the previous "detailer" hit them with the rotary and wool pad as proved by the chrome ripped off. Most of the side panels were sanded (?) and purely scoured by absolute neglect. The entire vehicle was also covered in heavy holograms and general washing/drying induced swirl marks. (breathe)

I worked hard on this puppy and I hope the pictures express that. My finals were:

Clean

-QEW x 2

-Meguiar's Agressive Overspray Clay with S+W as lube

-IPA and TOL Tire Cleaner cut 50/50 with various brushes to clean trim

-TOL Tire Cleaner cut 50/50 on tires and wells

-Meguiar's Wheel Brightener cut 3:1 on wheels

Correct

-Hi-Temp Extreme Cut via rotary and LC yellow cutting pad @ 1500 rpm x 2

-Menzerna Final Polish II via rotary and LC white polishing pad @ 1200 rpm

-Poorboy's PwS on glass, wheels, and chrome grille

Protect

-Meguiar's #21 Sealant x 2

-CD-2 Engine Detailer in wells

-Meguiar's Insane Shine Tire Spray on tires (buffed)

-Turbo Wax Tire Gel on all trim

Mostly, I learned how great of a compound Hi-Temp Extreme Cut is. It cuts around a 9 of 10, has almost no dust, and finishes very close to perfect. When using this product, be patient, use slow passes, and then a damp towel to remove.

Be patient around the trim; if you hit it, it will burn. Use thin coats with #21 and allow at least 15 minutes dry time.

Thanks for viewing, feel free to comment.

Dang! sweet job, Sean. I hate those molding too, it has same crap like the Honda Element does. Yup, I nicked too :shocked

The afters look spectacular!!! But i get the feeling the pics dont adequately show the difference between the before and afters.

i'm still amazed that you can do all that needs to be done in such little time.

Outstanding!! That would've taken me 7+ hours at least.

Did you do the interior as well?

I don't even want to know why the sides had all those sanding marks. Maybe someone used a Scotch Brite® to clean it or something?

BTW, don't feel bad, I washed a 2002 S600 the other day that reeked of beer inside and was so dirty in and out I felt I should shower immediately. Glad all I was asked to do was wash it. ;)

Absolutely superb work on the Jeep, I love how the paint has such a deep, rich glow. :)

Superb job Sean .

One question about Hi-Temp Extreme Cut, does it finish "better" and faster than PG??

Akele abraço

The pics are bad, which means that in person--IT WAS HORRIBLE!!

The jeep looks great, I am sure they were *very* pleased!!

I totally agree on the extreme cut, there is a learning curve, but once you have it down it performs beautifully. The best part....it's cheap!! :D

Seems like the plastic on the Element is a lot easier to work around though (I have one, trust me :)). It lays flush with the painted panels, so it's a lot easier to tape off. The Liberty looks like it would be tough to work around those panels.

Fantastic job! I'm hoping to get my Element looking that good this weekend. :)

Thanks everyone :).

Chuck: Thank you for being honest. I will continue to work on my before shots...I usually just rush through them as the surface appearance is like nails on a chalk board to me.

Langman: Yep, complete interior job, but no good comparos.

PwS has light cleaning and protection. It made quick work of light residue, polish, and bugs.

Scott: No freakin clue!

Too bad about the S600. Does it go back to the more money than brains debate :D?

RRacer: It works a little longer, finishes better, and doesn't dust like PG. I like it a lot but want to do a side by side to compare. It feels like it cuts a touch more.

Joe: Shhh!!!! They might raise the prices once it gets hyped...just like Menzerna.
