X-box 360

I was wondering who here has the latest and greatest. I heard in the news that they were having some problems with the console freezing up.

Anyhow what dp you think of the newest Game BOX.?

Is it that much better than the original X-BOX or PS2?

I'm a casual player and mainly stick to the sport games. I like awesome graphics and realistic play.

So lets here your opinions!!!

Most of the freezing problems seem to be related to the power supply overheating. If you keep the PSU on a solid surface (not carpeting) and ensure good airflow, then things seem to be much more stable. Microsoft are also pushing out updates over the Live network.

If you have an Xbox or PS2 and don't yet have a HDTV, I'd hold off buying until the New Year. Let the initial early adopters pay the premium for the system and get all the bugs worked out whilst you save up for a nice new display.

I agree. I do hvae an HD TV. But is the X-BOX 360 better in graphics and overall game play, or is it just "HD graphics" with same game play and looks?

My God man......you're in my head! (lol) I'm a PS2 kinda guy. Like you, I love the sports games. I also love any of the realistic "War Type" shooters. I've always been happy with the PS2 & it's graphics. A guy I work with just payed about $460.00 for the new X-Box. That's just insane! ( although, I just dropped $350.00 on detailing supplies earlier in the week. A PC kit & some other goodies. lol ) Like me, he's a Madden junkie. He say the graphics are amazing.

Hey BlkTac!!

Yeah I wont spend the money right now on the New X-Box. I'll do a wait and see! I just wonder how much more amazing the graphics really are.

Mike

The graphics are going to be alot better. The old Xbox uses a gforce 3 gpu, which is very old.

Im not sure what the new one uses, but its better than a 7800gtx and that means its a beast. It also has either 2 processors or dual core or something like that. It is a pretty impressive system, but like alot of launches, the initial launch games get old after 3 months or so, then there is a dry spell.

I will be getting on, maybe around Feb., and but will probably sell it when the PS3 comes out.

It will be clobberin time on the Xbox then.

I had one pre-ordered months ago. I went in to pick it up and Gamestop told me I had been pushed back to the second shipment, with no phonecall or guarantee I'd even get the system before Christmas. I'll never shop there again.

That being said, I think the 360s launch line-up is abysmal. Nothing really makes great use of the power of the system, and there certainly is no 'killer app.' I guess it's good that I didn't get my Xbox, saved me 400 bucks. So far I've spent about $375 on detailing stuff!

Although, I could have sold the Xbox for 1000... :D

I have the XBOX 360 with 0 problems to report. Likewise I do suggest a high def TV. Overall, the console is much better than the original XBOX – high definition, more advanced graphics card, faster processor, and added features.

I enjoy a bit of gaming and recently played Call of Duty 2 for the PC (generally speaking PC games are better than console). Simply put - the graphics are amazing! Surprisingly, there is little difference between the PC and XBOX 360 versions of COD2 – very impressive :xyxthumbs

On a side note, I paid $440 for the XBOX 360 at Sam’s Club. According to many Wall Street analysts, SONY's PS3 will be more powerful than the XBOX 360 . . . but also come at a premium price. Current estimates target $600 - $800.

They wont sell many machines at that price. I think it's more likely that it will come in at the 3 and 400 dollars marks as the XBOX has.

The graphics may be great, but some people aren't happy with Madden '06...

On the subject of the PS3: firstly the Blu-Ray drive isn't going to be cheap to produce and I don't think Cell yields are going to be sufficiently high for Sony to be able to stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap. Nor do I think they want to, they can easily retail them for $100 more than the 360 and the early adopters will suck it up. Their marketing machine will convince the core fans that it's worth the extra cash, just look at the hype they created with the "Emotion Engine". They have also have the benefit of having the PSP in the marketplace to keep the cash rolling in if PS3 supplies are constrained.

Microsoft did a lot right with the original Xbox, particularly with Live. The next 18 months should be very interesting :)

Yes, the launch line-up is pretty bad. PGR3 looks pretty good, but not much better than GT4. Right now, yes, the 360 is the latest and greatest.

However, I will patiently wait another 4-7 months for the PS3 to come out. All of my current games are PS2/PS1, and backwards capability is very nice.

The Cell processor is a MONSTER! I sure hope developers can take advantage of it! :spot

Anyways, I don't have an HDTV in my dorm, and PS2 still has strong games coming out this and next year, whereas it seems the original XBOX has been 'pushed under the rug' with the 360's arrival.

And rumor has it that when the PS3 comes out, the 360 will have a price drop, so even if you don't want a PS3, wait for the price drop!

Also, it will be interesting to see the graphical changes between each machine.

I played X360 too on HDTV. But, it seem to me with my dual SLi nVidia 7800GT video card have more peps, when I was playing CoD2 and BF2. It's just my 2cents...I dont want to see X360 vs PC.

Call me old skool, but I don't see the hype :nixweiss

All the games I saw on my non-HD TV looked maybe a little better than PS2 or Xbox, but not enough to go out and hold a store manager gunpoint for it  . I also haven't seen to many games that really appealed to me, they just don't look that great IMO. I did see Xbox 360 at a video game store yesterday and it looked pretty good. I do give most of the credit to the very nice HD plasma TV it was being played on. I've also read on other forums members having LOTS of problems with the HD and other bugs. One member was so fed up he just sold his on eBay.

If graphics are really big for you and you have a sweet TV to fully exploit the system's capabilities, I would consider buying Xbox 360, but as others said wait a while for the bugs to get fixed and for the price to go down. As for me, I'm happy with my PS2 and I'm excited to finally get my hands on Resident Evil 4.

Then again I'm easy to please. Give me a functional NES (8 bit) and some Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Rad Racer and Super Spike V'Ball and I'm on Cloud 9! :)

I saw COD2 on display on an X360 at Target and I stopped for a few mins to watch the kid play, and while the graphic lighting looked great, the actual textures and models were sub-par. I actually bought a Xbox a year or two ago and ended up trading someone for a PS2 earlier this year, so I figure this time I'll just buy a PS3 and not deal with the headache of owning a gaming system that doesn't have much from foreign developers.
