newb: :chuckle:
I recently purchased a honda civic with a new... shoddy paint job ... and a whole bunch of stuff from autopia-carcare. When i got the car, it was dirty and had been painted like 2 weeks prior, so I didn't want to do much to it for a little bit.
Just recently I tried my first ever detail on it, with mild success. I have some pictures, but i'm missing some cords to hook the camera up, so I can only go through the process and tell you my results.
Rinse
Cleaned tires and wheels with Sonus Rim Bright
Rinse
Wash with Meg's NXT using 2 bucket method and Sonus Der Wunder Mitt
Rinse
Dried with WW microfiber (which didn't seem to work as well as I thought it should have, but did not leave any streaking or water marks)
Clay bared with Sonus SFX Ultra-Fine Detailing Clay - this wasn't doing much of anything, and the paint bubbles were just thrashing the clay so I didn't do the whole car.
Hand polished with Sonus SFX-1 Restore Polish - took at least 3 hours to do the whole car. I took my time and tried to do the best i could.
Wiped down with MF polishing towel.
Hand polished with Sonus SFX-3 Final Finish - took about an hour. Harder to take off than the Restore Polish, ? , and didn't seem to do much.
Waxed with Meg's NXT.
Now, the problems. I did notice swirls throughout the car when I first got it (the main reason why I polished it) and there were a few bubbles, and a noticeably worn out clearcoat on a corner of the bumper.
Now that its been a few weeks past since I've detailed the car (and a few washes passed) I think I'm noticing more bubbling and another spot of worn clear coat on the passenger side panel. There are also lots of swirls left in the paint, and my windows are horribly swirled.
I want to do something to get rid of all the swirling but am afraid to polish again, because of the clearcoat, and am worried that even if I did polish again, the Sonus products wouldn't be strong enough to take any of the swirling away.
So: The topic; what would you do? Track down the person who sold it to me and threaten them for the name of the painter? Purchase new products and have another go? Would you try sand paper'ing the bubbles? Should I wait untill I purchase a PC? If you do answer, please recomend some products for me to try, cause I am willing to buy some more (especially certain kinds of swirl removers). Thanks!!!
