WWs not absorbing

I hate to do a repeat post but I for the life of me cannot find the previous threads on this issue (I know of at least two!). All I could find was Corey's dryer theory.

Question: All of my waffle weaves have started pushing the water around more than actually absorbing. Late last week my new Sonus WW towels arrived and they sucked water up like no other towel I have used until I washed them tonight. Now they are acting like all of my other WWs.

No one in our house uses liquid fabric softener in the washer and I only use Pinnacle MicroRejuvenator on my MF towels/pads. We DO use dryer sheets with clothing but I never use them when drying my MFs. Could there be residue in the dryer causing the WWs to not absorb? I poured water onto one of my WWs a few minutes ago and the water beaded like on a waxed surface and ever so slowly was absorbed. Dryer is set on its low heat, delicate cycle.

Don't have to answer but if you know the search terms to use for finding the previous threads, I would appreciate it.

I have found that my older WWs work better if I mist them with water before drying. It seems like that makes them softer and allows them to absorb water better with no streaking. :nixweiss

My new Excel WWs are working great though (they've been used 4 times now). They are a new WW that Patrick just started selling.

The theory in the other posts is that a particular product you use may be affecting the WW performance. Producs like WAUD. I had a similar problem and traced it back to the product used on my convertible top. I tried an number of MF restore products but ultimately gave up and went back to the Absorber which does not appear to be affected.

The only thing that has ever caused this on my WW's is WAUD.

I would wipe down the dryer with iosopropyl alcohol before placing them in. Or you could just do like me and outlaw all of those things, nothing allowed but detergent. ;) :D

The newness of the towel has me thinking that it must be the dryer sheets. :nixweiss

I just pulled more microfibers out of the wash including half of my drying towels. When they're already damp, they absorb has they should. Not knowing what to use to clean the interior of the dryer, I sprayed Spray & Wipe onto a cloth and vigorously rubbed the interior. I think I could actually see dryer sheet residue on the cloth. I'll know in about 80 minutes if that was the problem.

The first load is going back into the washer after my cloths are done. I'll wipe the dryer down with rubbing alcohol (thanks for the suggestion) tomorrow and dry the first load again.

as the towels get older absorbency goes way down.

My laundering routine: Every 4th wash or so I'll use one of the MF targeted cleaners (Pinnacle or MicroRestore). I seem to have pretty good luck with that. On the other wash cycles, I just use regular HE detergent in our front loader. I always dry them in the dryer 'til they have just a little moisture remaining...perhaps 20 mins is all it takes.

Just tested my WWs and a couple of my regular MF towels. Water beads on the waffle weaves and slowly soaks in (some does not) whereas my regular MFs absorb the water instantly, just like my WWs used to. I am really confused here...

I noticed that my Autopia brand WW that I bought last year is doing the same thing. I just ordered some new Sonus Wunder Drying towels. I dont want those to end up like my current one. If I have to I will start washing them by hand strictly to make sure they do not end up beading water. The other MF's Im not so worried about their absorbency but the WW's on the other hand needs to have it.

Well I'm still intrigued by the theory on Adam's videos that you should boil defective MFs in water for 10 minutes. I'm sure this would apply to WWs as well.

My drying towel (Megs MF drying towel) is also nearing the end of its useful existence, so when I have a replacement on hand I'll try boiling the old one and report back. (I don't want to try it just yet in case it trashed the towel and leaves me with no means of drying my car!)
