WTB: Rotary

Anyone selling a lightly used Makita or Hitachi? Its been almost 3 years and I think the Vector is about ready to give out.

If no one has one, please direct me to a place that has them for a reasonable price. Thanks.

For whatever price you get a used one for, you may be better off buying a new one at Harbor Freight. I don't know how reliable the polishers are there since I never used one but the Vector polishers are going for $55 here.

I don't have a rotary but all my research disagrees with your above statement.

Unless you are going to only break out the machine once a year go with a machine that is tried and true.. makita, hitachi for the win

I bought a HF rotary, used it once, then bought a Makita. The HF would not hold a consistant speed. Now I use the HF for polishing the ceramic tile in my bathroom, and the Makita for the cars.

Well I DO have a rotary and I was only suggesting that he try HF to see if they carry such tools. The HF here from time to time carries other manufactures tools other than their own. I have even seen DeWalt tools at HF. But he might just be better off getting another Vector considering the price comparied to a used one. Your research seems to be a little flawed.

Nope, my research is not flawed (see below post from someone who also DOES own a rotary). Your post was misleading at best - seemed as though you were suggesting a HF tool not a dewalt - in fact the link you provided was a HF rotar - not a dewalt...

Bottom line the OP clearly slated he is looking for a Hitachi or makita and you suggested an inferior product

Yes, I am in the market for a Makita or Hitachi. Seen the Flex rotary, but is it worth dishing out 230 bucks?

flex has a rotary and a DA, i believe the rotary is only for smaller pads as the transmission in the unit cant handle the larger ones

The flex DA info is all over the site

For what its worth i have a hitachi after about 3 rotarys and its the quiestest, lightest, and most powerful rotary yet, i love it.

Either the Makitas or the Hitachis are the only way to go. I have tired the harbor freight stuff and its like playing with Tonka toys or Fisher Price toys.

Get on Ebay and you will find Makitas for a really good price, sometimes outstanding prices.

Flex has several rotaries, including units designed for 8 and 9“ pads.

The Flex XC 3401 VR that everybody likes so much is a forced-orbit polisher, not a DA. I don’t think Flex sells their DA machine (sander) in the US.

PC.

DA i must have been mistaken i thought stood for "dual action", i figured the orbit or "jiggle" was one action, and the forced rotation was another. Guess i was wrong thanks for clearing that up.

I have had my hands on a makita and a hitachi, and i dont know what it is but something about the hitachi i like more, but between the two machines you cant go wrong. It really comes down to personal preference.

It does. The first action is the small diameter, driven orbit. The second action is that it’s free to rotate around its central axis, but not forced to.

Ehh I'll just dish out the moolah my next check. I'm sticking with the rotary.

Sorry club flex members, but i choose to stay faithful to the rotary.

I've got a makita I'm trying to sell. Used on like 3 cars. It comes with 2 unused wool pads, a used (one car) Velcro base and a connector for the click in type of propel pads and the bag. I'd also consider a trade plus cash if you've got a Porter cable (I would like to be able to do some polishing, but I really don't need something this serious).
