New customer, he was referred to me by a friend/customer. The owner's main concern was some cloudiness on the passenger side on the rear fender. It had been refinished a while back and looked dull compared to the rest of the car. The soft paint on the WRX had some moderate spider swirling.
ONR (regular version) to wash, Optimum nano-skin to clay the WRX, Opti-Raser to clay the G35. Why two different claying products? We (my son and I) washed them at the same time, I have one of each.
Optimum Hyper Compound using a Meguiars 6" microfiber cutting pad and my PC 7424 XP on the G35 only
Optimum Hyper Polish using an Optimum microfiber cutting pad and my PC on both cars
Opti-Seal to protect both cars
Armor All to dress tires/leather
ONR Wash and Wax at QD strength to clean the glass
The sun was in and out all day but this comparison shows the swirls and how well just one step (OHP/MF cutting pad) was able to remove most and greatly reduce the rest.
Nissan paint is a lot harder so we used Hyper Compound as the first step and were able to get significant swirl removal on the G35 as well and stick within the original rough estimate I had given the customer when we first talked about the cars. We were also able to make a big improvement in the cloudy area too. Part of the problem is more metallic in the paint (makes it look more silver) and really tight orange peel that should probably be wet sanded. But part of the problem was poor buffing by the body shop, including holograms from a rotary. Polishing those out really helped.
