Would you feel weird...

Alright well probably everyone knows from my posts that I have been looking for a newer car. At the moment I cant afford the one I would like so I am forced to stick with what I have a supercharged Grand Prix...requiring premium fuel. I am hoping to sell my car this spring..but until then and in the future I would like something that I can easily use to commute. I did a little searching and my parents would never let me get a crotch rocket...:( so until I move out I need something to use for those days just going to work nearby...to get fast food...and just to putz around at night to go to my girlfriend's house when I dont feel like wasting money with putting gas in my car.

Ive been looking at the 2006 MC Tahiiti

http://www.rabbitscooters.com/products/71.htm

or

the 2006 Vento *not Malaguti as previously stated* Phantom

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006...015QQitemZ250014125759QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

I dont want to feel like Im going to look like a total idiot...lol but I dont have to pay insurance on it...or have a license plate for it..both go at least 60 mph with 65+ mpg

Do what YOU have to do Josh. Times are changing and if having another form of transportation such as "scooter" allows you to save what you need to then who cares what others think?

I say go for it man... stunt the scooter in style :D

Thanks for the input Scott, Im not in *desperate* need for a scooter or money saver...but it would just be nice to have around so I dont need to waste all my money on my premium fuel. It'd be nice to have that extra money for other things, and I know I wouldn't be the only one using it as my younger sister and mom would both be able to use it as well. In my opinion...I guess I would rather spend this $1,000 than be stressed out about having to put $60 in my car a week...I do a lot of running around town too and from work, back to my other work, take my dog to the park, etc...No need to run around in my car putting on miles and gas when I could just putz around at 60 mph...I thought it was pretty impressive for a scooter lol

There ARE other "green" alternatives.

There's your answer Josh - if you don't have to impress any girls, get the moped :).

P.S. Go for the Phantom, and definetly in red. The black color scheme looks terrible whereas the red one doesn't look too bad.

buy the 10 speed ha ha and park the super bike around the corner and mom will be none the wiser.but be sure and ride red.

How about one of these? The one thing keeping me from wanting a scooter is the upright position.

Link to eBay

Can someone tell me why these are so cheap? Is it just because it has moped power but motorcycle looks? I like those alot, decals would have to go though.

Josh,

If you are looking for the ultimate economy I think a scooter is a great way to go.

Keep in mind that a motorcycle is NOT as cheap as one would think. Sure, most of them get GREAT mileage but, you have to take maintnance into account. Just one example is motorcycle tires, they only last a fraction of the miles a car tire does, count on more than one set a year depending on the type of tire, how much you ride and the type of riding you do. Then there is also insurance which is going to be expensive for someone your age no matter what motorcycle you chose even with minimal coverage.

Basically what I am saying is that if economy is the driving reason you decide to get a motorcycle some time in the future, look into all of the other costs associated such as wear items, maintenance, insurance, etc and compare that to your current vehicle before buying a bike.

I am not trying to talk you out of a motorcycle some time in the future, just trying to point out that you might be dissapoiinted if you buy one believing you will save a ton of money :D In this regard again, the scooter is the best way to go :2thumbs:

Around here (Fairfield County, CT), this craze is catching on.

I see them all the time, mainly Vespas, but people love them and use them often. They're great for cruising around town, grabbing a couple things at the grocery, or heading to close destinations.

I'm not sure how well it'd work for me as I'd need a sidecar for my detailing products :), but with the rate gas is increasing, things change quickly.

I say, do some research on reliability and performance, and pull the trigger.

haha So I guess those no name ninja looking motorcyclye things arent any good :( Thats too bad since they actually look decent with a nice price tag. Im looking to keep it under $1,400 if possible. The search continues...

Go to your local Honda Motorcycle dealer and see if they have some used ones. :)

How many months of the year would you be able to ride the scooter in Michigan? I'm sure right now it would be ok but would you be able to use it in the colder months??

Remeber I am from Louisiana so anything below 40 degrees is cold and I know my butt wouldn't be riding on a scooter in the colder months. :D

Because China has a lot of experience at making cheap two-wheeled, motorized transportation. Anyone wanna take bets on what these things are gonna look like in 5 or 10 years? Especially when you consider issues with parts availability when you buy something like this online? It strikes me the same as buying a bicycle-shaped object at WalMart.

Very good point Velobard, I did some searching and could not find any parts for the ones listed on ebay. Looks like Im going to have to sacrifice looks and get something I can get parts for

---Did some further research and it looks like Im going to end up where I started...The Vento Phantom's engine is made by Honda I found out. I found a website that has all the parts you could possibly need for this thing and they are based in the US. I'll know by tonight exactly when I will have it - just waiting for parental approval haha

You could look into finding a honda civic cx from about 1992-95. They get about 40+ mpg and shouldn't be too expensive.

I agree. The only problem is it is another vehicle to insure. I had a 91 hatchback and loved the little thing.
