Worst Interior?

I got a call yesterday about a complete interior detail on an '08 GMC Acadia. All good, it's a year old..... should be an easy couple of bucks:2thumbs:

Um, no. This is what showed up in my driveway this morning:

YES, this is mold.......

SDC10337.jpg

Reason for the mold? 1/2" of water in the front floorboards!!

SDC10338.jpg

Yummy baby milk:woohoo:

and at the foot of said baby...

Passenger footwell.

OK, now after the Shop-Vac/ carpet introductions were made, things were looking a little better.

And when it was almost all over (daylight running out for pictures)

Needless to say she was happy.

Pretty gross befores. I can't imagine what went on in that car to get it in that shape after only a year or so. Good work on getting it factory-fresh again.

It amazes me that people can let that happen to a car they're probably paying $600+/month for. I would feel absolutely gross every time I got in that car.

Wow. I laughed and cried at the same time when looking at those Before pictures.

Props for having the spirit to tackle this mess :). I would have been too sissy to deal with that mold.

Edit: That slippery piece of white paper right in front of the accelerator pedal...yikes.

Thanks guys.

It really wasn't that bad. Sure there was dog hair and trash EVERYWHERE, but after filling a Hefty or two, and the shop-vac introductions, the carpet didn't look all that bad. (see the 2 "during" pics above)

Water was extracted with my trusty old Little Green Machine, then shampooed (is that even a word?) with Bissel pre-treat and Bissel carpet cleaner. Various APC's, leather conditioners and vinyl protectors were used.

As for the smell? Kinda like decomposing flesh...... only "sweeter". Doors were open for 6 hours to help facilitate drying and to air out.

Mold was superficial at best and was removed with a local product called Mold-B-Gone. Smells worse than the mold:p

Maybe not the best place to ask this, but with the increase of interior jobs that I am doing, the LGM just isn't keeping up. Are those extractors REALLY worth 7 times the cost over the LGM?

You did an excellent job on the interior. I think the car and the baby should be taken away from the owner and the owner should be given a bus pass and a cabbage patch kid.

Good job man, i hope you were wearing protective gloves ( In this case, Gator skin gloves the blue ones from Chemical Guys would be a must for me, i love em.).:bigups

The kick in the pants is that in a month the car will look just as bad. Dirty people are dirty people.

That's fine. More work for me:clap:

As for the gloves, I used those blue Nitrile gloves that you get at wally world. 100 for about $10, while the gator skins at Chemicalguys are almost twice that..... plus shipping!

Never used the LGM, but I wouldn't even consider a job like that without my extractor (Mytee HP60). Being worth the extra cash is different for everybody, I personally do about 15 cars a week so the durability factor is huge and I can justify the cost with the volume coming in. 137 degrees of lift, roughly 180 degree water at the tip, 5" wand, 1.5 gal solution and recovery tank, lots of features better than the LGM.

But, it requires a 20 amp breaker and is about 70lbs empty, so if your mobile it may not be a good choice. Oh, and mine was $1800 after taxes and such (i got ripped, you can get one for a few hundred less) so it's a little more than 7 times as much as the LGM.

Oh. My. Goodness. Job well done, for sure! This wasn't so much an interior detail as it was a customer wanting you to be his/her janitor after a slumber party turned into a food fight. Confession time....I charge more when I see anything approaching this level of filth...for two reasons. First, I'm not interested in being anyone's maid. And second, I'd rather such a customer consider cheaper alternatives. Granted, I don't count on this for primary income, so even more kudos to you for taking on this challenge.

My two cents on the extractor....if you provide full interior detail services, the 7x cost is well worth the investment. ROI in pure monetary figures may take a while, but in terms of performance and speed, you'll be very happy.

LOL This is what I do every day!!!!! I really don't understand how all these people can live this way. I do at least one of those every day and it never shocks me. SAD!!!

The 6th picture, euggghhh. All you need is some milk and you can have of cheerios on the spot! :LOLOL. O and :goodjob on the interior!

Put some dealer plastic back on the interior. That is ridiculus.

My best -- Someone layed a dead deer across the back seat of their Accord, blood and hair everywhere. Really.
