Worst detailing job

It was today. 2002 Honda Accord sedan. Silver with light gray interior. Interior was total $hit. I got a call on this last week.

Car belongs to a dealer in the smaller town south of me. Anyway, he calls me and he dropped it off last night.

He wanted it cleaned to the best it could get. Well thats as good as the detailer can get(so to speak). I started with the interior.

Vacuumed it out, wiped down the dash, doors windows, cluster, Q-tipped vents and creases, and conditioned leather seats.

That all came out pretty good. The leather on the door had some pen marks. I had a difficult time getting that out.

After that it was time for the coffee stained, grimed ridden carpet. It looked like it was never ever done.

I used Folex since it has never disappointed me.

I did the back seat area and it came out well. Started then on the passeneger front and it could have loooked a little better.

I then went to the drivers side and this was a challenge. I used gum remover on several spots. Who ever owned this car was a gum

freak(more on that in a minute). Of course the gum was all black in the carpet. I got the gum out and continued with the Folex treatment.

I let it sit for quite sometime. I actually used sos pads on the wheels while it sat. I went to scrub it out and proceed to vacuum and it looked

about 60% better. Since that was not good enough, I hit it again. waiting longer. I scrubbed it then I sprayed more and let it sit. While I was waiting

for that, I noticed on the drivers side door, at the bottom of the door where those pockets are that are typically in door panels. I noticed

about 25 dried, rock hard pieces of gum. So now I get the gum remover and soak that section. I got my small screw driver out and proceeded to pry

the dry pieces out. Not much effort but I got them out. I then went back to the carpet. I scrubbed again and vacuumed out.

Was slightly better this time. So I then decide on one LAST time with some Folex. Carpet still had a slight brown color to it and it was driving me nuts.

3rd time did it better but not 100%. More like 75%. Keep in mind when the guy dropped this off, I knew he had a huge expectation on the look of the finished car. I honestly felt like I was cleaning a turd of a car. The exterior wasn't too bad. Wash, clay & I just did a M205 polish on it and it came out great.

When he came to pick it up, I could tell he wasn't as excited as I figured he wouldn't be. He seemed meloncoly(sp) about it, but did say he liked it

100% better. I guess he has a customer coming tomorrow to see it. I told him to call me if he sells it, since I was curious.

No doubt the worst car I ever did(interior wise).

Did an Enclave last month that was so gross I wanted to puke. The cupholders were baked with what looked like motor oil. The carpet also had this stuff on them along with a bunch of mold. The entire car was just nasty with stuff spilled everywhere. The back seat had some type of cheesy food product baked into the cloth seats. I would say that this car looked as good as it was going to get but I couldn't get all of the stains out of the carpet. The guy told me he wanted it to look like new but that wasn't going to happen......to much neglect. He acted happy when I was done but who really knows.

doING a hummer soon for a friend...he's one of the few that i know that ACTUALLY goes off roading in it and has never machine polished or any of that in the 4 years he owned in....hopefully pictures to come..... *Faint*

Well this isn't the worst one I've ever done but it's up there on the list and I actually took some pics. This is when I was still doing some dealer work.

Oh yeah Rasky. I'd say that "sexcort" has everyone beat.:hairpull

I think it's safe to say the previous owner was not getting any sex in that POS! :D

Yeah to make matters worse, the car I was talking about above, the guy wants his money back for the detail. Even though he picked it up and was overall satisfied at the time.

Tell him no problem, bring it back and you'll spray all the dirt from you extractor right back in the car.

Tell him to have it done "properly" and show you the results, and you'll gladly refund the money if it looks significantly better than what you were able to do.

I think part of the problem is managing expectations. It's hard to judge how well (or not) the carpet would look after cleaning, but it might have helped to let the dealer know before starting that you likely wouldn't be able to do better than around 70-80% improvement without re-dying the carpet.

I didn't tell you everything he said. I believe he was just upset he couldn't close the deal on the car when those customers came down. This car was an '01 or '02 I think. Silver with light gray interior.

Anyway, I was confident enough to tell him I could get the interior about 75% better. Which in my honest opinion it did. My problem with him is that he examined the car, he and his wife. He looked at and said overall "I'm happy" with the outcome. And I said great. Let me know if you sell it. I was just being nice and I thought the guy would sell it. The customers that looked at it I guess hated it. Which is why I think I'm feeling the backlash from him(my theory).

I told him that I would look at the car and re-do any problems he might have. He said he wanted me to come to him. And he thought it was bull$hit that he had to drop the car off to me.

I said either you bring it to me, or forget it and move on. I said I'll give you till Saturday morning to let me know if your bringing it, or you can forget it.

I think the guy had buyers remorse on getting the car to begin with.

Frustrated me, I tell ya....He has been my only complaint of all the cars I've done.
