Woolite on leather - follow up with conditioner?

For auto interior leathers in which the manufacturer recommends a diluted Woolite solution for cleaning, is there any point in following up with a leather conditioner (like Lexol)? Or does the type of leather for which Woolite is suitable not benefit at all from your typical leather conditioner?

I usually clean with woolite and follow with 4* leather conditioner. The Woolite is just a cleaner whereas the conditoner is, well, a conditioner that moisturizes the leather. I'm not sure what kind of leather you have, but I would assume this process is universal.

To understand about leather think about this, remember when you were a kid making mud pies and once they dried out they cracked up, because the water was removed. Same thing about leather once the oils or even partly removed leather will start to crack. Same principles apply to vinyl covered areas like dash boards. Using any type of cleaner to clean leather is not good because oil is being taking out with the detergent so the oils is being replaced with water and when the water evaporates from the leather it will start to shrink, the more oils taken out the more it shrinks to the point it will crack.

Cleaning leather is best cleaned with a leather conditioner that will replace the old dirty oils with clean oil. Sounds easy right? there is a trick to cleaning leather, and the trick is use lots of clean rags and lots of conditioner.

Cleaning leather seats is a specialty that can take a full day to do.

I’m not a leather cleaning specialist I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night

The main thing to do to extend the life of leather is to keep it clean. Woolite does an excellent job of that and you will probably notice after using it to clean the leather, the leather feels noticably softer. However, I still think it is a good idea to follow cleaning with a quality conditioner.

"The main thing to do to extend the life of leather is to keep it clean" Well Scott yes you are right because like anything else the dirt will deteriorate the leather. It’s got to do with bacteria, more dirt the more the bacteria will eat away the leather plus the leather will stink too if there is a lot of bacteria, but sticky leather smells good. OK according to what I know is bacteria can’t live in clean fresh oil. But I would not worry about bacteria in leather its takes a lot of years to deteriorate the leather by bacteria, its losing the oils out of leather you have to worry about the most.

OK now Woolite makes the leather softer because it replaces some oil with detergent that in turn acts as a lubricant. Anything that ether takes out or replaces oil is not exactly good if you don’t follow up with a leather conditioner so that it won’t completely dry out.

Also in case someone does not know this Ever use saddle soap to clean leather seats, unless you know what you are doing.
