Woolite lube

I used Woolite diluted 8:1 with distilled water as a clay lubricant today. WOW it worked great. Nice and slick with gentle cleaning too. And it didn't degrade the clay at all!

Why???? just use the proper clay lube, why take a chance. Meguiars quik detailer, mothers show time,
meguiars final inspection, work excellent for this task.
use woolite for your delicate wool sweaters. Just my
opinion.

I usually use MCG Quick Detailer as a clay lube, but this car was so jacked up it would have taken gallons just to keep the clay lubed. I mean when you can hear the clay grind against the surface it's time to think of something. The paint turned out absolutely smooth as glass. Seriously guys...give it a shot.

You could have clayed the car at the wash stage, using some clean soapy water...sort of the same effect that you got with the woolite

Hmmm. Interesting. Better expect that Im gonna try it next time. Certainly NOT on a customer's vehicle though. My car is getting pretty bad, I'll let you know.

I'll do the same on occasion or use S&W. A lot will make there own clay lube, just never heard of using woolite.

Atleast use something that is recommended for paint. You might be able to get away with using Woolite and it might not be harmful to the paint but you might run across a piece of trim that can be stained by it or it might dry out rubber seals. You just don't know what could happen using something like Woolite for this purpose. Just because you tried it once and it worked for you doesn't mean you should be recommending it. Forgive me, I know you meant well.

Poorboy's S&W can be dilluted and still make a great clay lube, so can DP Four in One to name a couple inexpensive options. These products won't harm anything because they were formulated to be used on car exteriors.

You can rest assured that I mean only the best.

Since I forgave you for rubbing me the wrong way, can you forgive me?

- Okay then, from now on, no one in this forum should recommend anything unless they've used it successfully at least 10 times.
- Use something recommended for paint? Like kerosene and other petroleum products that are in most paint care product? You don't work for the car care industry do you?
- Stain a trim? Give me a break. How many real car care products stain trims?
- At least I had the brains enough not to use Tide with Bleach Alternative! :yikes:

#1 - I have stained trim from using the wrong product on paint before so I know it is possible.

#2 - The two products I mentioned happened to be what I use not just what I sell.

So you think it's a good idea to use a product once on a surface it is not meant for and then go and recommend it to others?

Your being sarcastic now to the guy that runs this site...(not in your best interest) just because you didn't like his answer!

Troy pointed out some decent info on the solution that you used...is it the best for lube with clay? not really will it work yes!

The thing that makes this site great for anyone to learn about detailing, is the people that can post their hands on experience, in a process or product.

I didn't say much about using woolite for lube but if you are looking for a cheaper lube that you can make...car soap mixed with water can do the same thing and its designed to be used on a car.

I felt that I had been unnecessarily stepped on. I'm a Newbie but that doesn't mean I'm dense. In fact, I'm an educated man and a very successful computer engineer.

I thought I had tripped over something that was very cheap ($2.50/gallon) and worked great. When you find something great what's the first thing you want to do? Share it so everyone can benefit!

Pictures will be posted tonight :D

No one is questioning your education level..we get a lot of people posting about some household product that they have used on a car for something that has worked fine.

No one singled you out about your woolite solution..seems to me that you and Troy had a disagreement at one point, and maybe you or both are a bit to sensitive.

If you post something that is out of the norm for car care, meaning a household product solution. You have to suspect that its not going to be met with out some subjective comments.

Sorry Mark. That was not my intention. I just see a lot of crazy things that people do to avoid having to buy a product. Using Woolite on your paint sounds crazy to me but if it works for you then that's fine.

I have been detailing a long time and I have experimented with products before many times. I have even been guilty of recommending just like you just did. I'm just trying to make it known that using a product for something other than what it was intended for might have consequences you may not see right away.

Maybe I'm too sensitive. I work with some very hostile and confrontational people. Let's have peace between us now brother. I've always loved to work on cars but I've only been seriously infected by the detailer bug for about one year. Lots of people ask me to do their cars but I turn away 9/10. I send them to "Mr. B" here in Montgomery.
