wool vs foam...

are wool pads more effective at diminishing below the surface defects such as etching and scratches vs foam pads (flat or wave)?

I dunno but i would be willing to give a cutting pad and polishing pad a try, only if edge all never mind:)

The question is too vague to give an accurate response. The product being used in tandem with the pad will effect the results. A wool pad with a mildly aggressive compound will be less likely to perform as well as a foam pad with an aggressive compound. Definitely have to consider the combination to get optimum results. Old school says wool was more aggressive;however, there are foam pads now that can accomplish the same results.

Both Pads have there place int eh detail world. The Woll pad will cut MUCH more aggresively gieven a medium to course compoound, but the need for cutting that aggressively doesn't happen all the time.

my thinking was that a wool pad is more 3d vs a flat foam pad which can't reach below the top of the paint surface. Any compound that fills the etching is less likely to be worked by a flat pad. Is my thinking correct?

Um, not sure.
Wool covers more surface area and heats up quicker. I think that's why it cuts better.
It is also more likely to cause holo-swirls and buffing marks. I only reach for natural wool when I have too.
