Wool Pad...is it really necessary?

It is really necessary to grab the aggressive wool pad? Is there another combo to use so that I do not have to use the wool pad?

Does it just depend on the type of paint you are working with?

If I use a rotary/PCXP with a LC yellow or orange should I be able to get close to the same results without the micro-marring?

Use a PFW; they almost always finish out perfectly for me.

Sure, something like SIP+orange will do the job, but why sit there heating up the surface for several minutes if a few quick passes with SIP+PFW makes it perfect.

agreed. Purple Foamed Wool is great! Probably the only wool pad i would use. It usually won't take very many passes to achieve great results and correction, allowing you to move forward in a more timely fashion.

I use the Meguiars W4000 cut n shine wool pad with great results! Doesn't get hot so you can use it on and near the plastic bumpers. The yellow and orange pads can burn or cut into plastic parts in seconds if your not careful. I can't see any downsides to using the wool overall...

I'm a wool pad convert. Much easier for me than foam with great results. PFW is great, I also started using some Edge wool pads I got some time ago. Was looking to get the job done faster with great results!!

If you're wanting to stick to your signature line, your going to need to use wool on many applications. I suggest trying these TufBuf Black Natural Lambswool Polishing Pads:

TufBuf Black Natural Lambswool Polishing Pad [TUFB-01] - $1.90 : MICRO-SURFACE FINISHING PRODUCTS, INC

Chances are, you'll like using these pads so much that they'll be the 1st thing you reach for on moderate to heavy corrections.

Completly agree on this one. These pads are probaly the best I have ever used. I personally think every detailer needs wool in there arsenal. So many people I see use use foam more and more? Wool is a big factor when correcting paint. You need it!

If you do a search on this board, I doubt that you'll find many, if any, people who prefer a yellow pad to a PFW.

When using the Tufbuf pad for moderate correction do you use a light cutting polish like SIP?

Wow, OK..I might have to try one of those.

I dont see it mentioned much but I love the Edge Wool pads. Used the yellow wool on an F150 the other month and the edge wool pads are wonderful.

Wool IMHO cuts faster, leaves a better finish in less time. It's such a time saver IMHO.

How does 85RD work on a cutting wool pad? I would have never thought to try 85RD on anything but a finishing pad.
