Wool/Foam Buffer

2002 Maxima SE

Hi All,

Since I've had my PC, I've used the Sonus DAS pack of foam buffers.

Sonus DAS Pad Kit

These have worked fairly well. The orange pad with SSR 2.5 takes out about 90% of my swirls/hazing. Finishing up with the SSR 1 and a blue pad leaves a good shine.

Now that my Maxima is 7 years old, there are some water spots and swirls that are no longer coming out with this combo. I'm thinking I need to move up a notch to a wool pad (not too aggressive) to deal with the water spots.

What would be recommended (given I like to use the SSR product line)?:work: Do I need a wool pad or just a different pack of foam pads?

The orange pad is very stiff and causes quite a bit of vibration on my PC going over a setting of 4.

You will probably get the best results with a more powerful polisher, like the Flex 3401 or a rotary. I do know that Meguiars is coming out with a PC friendly version of their #105 compound, that will possibly work using a polishing pad and the PC if you crank it up to 6 and work it in real well. You may be comfortable with the SSR line but #105 is an amazing compound-outstanding cut and you still get a decent finish. With regards to using wool pads, they just don't work all that well with DA buffers in my experience.

I have the same car as you, so I completely understand how rock hard the paint gets as it gets older.

some smaller pads (4") can do wonders for a power upgrade using your PC

also some people love the purple foamed wool

I don't know with the PC but with the 3401 and a PFW the correction is great.

This is my car I posted a pic a while back. The door was polished before, the quarter panel (from the door handle towards the back of the car) was polished with the PFW and SIP. I was astonished with the correction in one pass(2 passes was a bit nicer but resulted in micromarring) . The pic is a 50/50 shot of the QP. The paint on this thing is rock hard.

you can also use the edge adapter and some 4" Cyclo pads huge difference in cutting power best combo I've used with my pc . with the edge system far less vibration , pads are self centering so crank it up to speed six corrects pretty well for a pc and fits into some tight places..
