This has been a HUGE issue with me. I have 18" Gold spoke Dayton (chrome lip) on my car. I NEED to find a product that will 1) Clean the wheels without leaving a dulling residue 2) Wont take the finish off 3)Will save me about 8 hours once a month taking the wheels off and taking a toothbrush to them. I have been using maguires but it doesnt take all the dirt off and does leave one hell of a residue on the spokes... HELP please :wait :-p

= Very clean wheels with little effort (especially if done regularly)

Perhaps the "safest" wheel cleaner around would be P21s's, I'd be shocked if that left a residue It would possibly take multiple applications if the brake dust/dirt is severe. I would be very cautious with theSimple Green. It might just be overreaction and hype, but it has been said it can be destructive to aluminum and similar materials. I always take the safest route I know. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

what does the wheel maker say

I was going to ask the same question.

Wheel Cleaning info from Lay it Low.

From looking at the Dayton wheel website, Dayton appears to have their own wheel cleaner and sells X-treem products. This does not suprise me as Dayton purchased American Wire Wheel from Hulcher Enterprises, which makes X-treem products.

Is X-treem products is a detailing product company? I guess you should just go with them or find out what mfr makes the wheel cleaner for them :dunno

I just checked the web site for those rims and they are pretty wild to say the least. Anywho I'd say a acid based cleaner would work with a good paint brush, tape the metal part of the brush up before to keep from straching. Rince well and I'd hit them with the leaf blower to dey off and keep from spotting.

That's how I would approach them

Several years ago, I more or less restored my Cadillac wire wheel style wheel covers with the EO wire wheel cleaner. The wheel covers were dreadful, baked on dust and dirt. I couldn't believe how well the EO worked. But since Hoax is experiencing a residue from EO products ( I personally would just follow with car wash) I think one of his best bets may be the P21s, sure a lot less aggressive, non caustic, but will probably require multiple application yet probably no residue left behind. You masy want to get one of those special wire wheel brushes you could get from a Wal-Mart or car parts store. Agitiating the cleaner with that did the trick for me.

Digging this one up, just picked up a set of chrome spoke rims and wanted to know what people are using?

Thanks I've heard about that stuff before, have to see how it cleans will let everyone know as soon as I do. Here's a shot of what the rim looks like:
